ACHS staff spotlight on: Mr. Robert Meacham He's new Adair County High School Assistant Football Coach and coordinator of the PASS program Friends and colleagues around the state have asked me on more than one occasion, "Why Adair Co.?" My response doesn't change. I fell in love with the Green River area of Central KY when I was a high school senior visiting Campbellsville University and have always thought that this area would be ideal for my family. Bethany and I are very excited to bring our family to Adair Co. and we will give our best effort to make a lasting difference in the lives of the young people we coach and educate." - ROBERT MEACHAM By Shamarie Claiborne News from the Adair County, KY, School District The Adair County School System will be spotlighting staff throughout the 2013/2014 school year. Our first spotlight is from the Adair County High School. The Adair County High School is proud to spotlight Mr. Robert Meacham. Mr. Meacham comes from a long line of educators and was raised in California. After completing high school he decided to move east in 1997 and attend Campbellsville University. Mr. Meacham played football and cheered at CU but also meet his wonderful wife Bethany there. He graduated from CU in 2002 with a Bachelors in Social Science. He and Bethany married after Mr. Meacham completed Infantry basic training at Ft. Benning, GA that same year. The Meacham's then served on active duty with the 3rd Infantry (The Old Guard), based in Washington DC until 2006. Bethany and Robert have two handsome sons. Austin was born in 2004 while Mr. Meacham was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and their family was complete in 2005 with the birth of their youngest son Tyler in 2005. Mr. Meacham received his Masters in Special Education in 2007. Mr. Meacham has been teaching and coaching football since 2006. He joins us from Anderson County High School in Lawrenceburg, KY. This year he is coordinating the PASS program at ACHS and is the Assistant Football Coach. Coach Meacham is also an active member of the Kentucky Army National Guard as a 1st Lieutenant with the 577th Sapper Company based in Prestonsburg, KY. In the past the Meacham's have been very active in their home churches working with youth and children's ministries and look forward to finding a similar church family in the area. When asked about his teaching/coaching philosophy Coach Meacham stated: "I view my job as a coach to be paramount to my students and athletes success. Some might be taken by surprise by that. The popular thing to say is teacher first, coach second. I prefer to say coach first, teacher always! A coach is someone who can envision the endless possibilities, the greatest outcomes, and the unlimited potential of the students and athletes that they mentor. Most students don't yet have the depth of knowledge or foresight to even imagine the possibilities. I love opening those doors for kids! In the classroom, on the football field, or on the track the kids at Adair Co. High School deserve to have their vision stretched. I refuse to let them down."Coach also commented on adjusting to small town life. "Friends and colleagues around the state have asked me on more than one occasion, "Why Adair Co.?" My response doesn't change. I fell in love with the Green River area of Central KY when I was a high school senior visiting Campbellsville University and have always thought that this area would be ideal for my family. Bethany and I are very excited to bring our family to Adair Co. and we will give our best effort to make a lasting difference in the lives of the young people we coach and educate." We are honored to have Coach Meacham and his family join our community. - Shamarie Claiborne for the Adair County School System This story was posted on 2013-08-15 07:47:30
