Mansfield died as a result of multiple chop and incised wounds to the head sustained during an assault. The final autopsy report, including toxicology results, will not be available for several weeks. The accused, Kassey Russell, was initially arrested last night on a Monroe County Indictment warrant that charged him with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree and Persistent Felony Offender 1st Degree. Russell is lodged in the Monroe County Jail. A $5,000 line item for the civic club had been in the budget, but because of a tighter financial situation this year, no money had been given the group. Mr. Meadows cited among other reasons, three of the Chamber's activities, the Christmas in Columbia festival, the Roadside Park, and the Chamber's venue for meeting. However, the TCSO is awaiting the findings of the toxicology report, which may take a few days, from the state lab in Frankfort, KY. Sheriff Newton said that his department is continuing its death investigation in the case.
