Grace Beatrice Landis, Green Co., KY (1920-2013)

Mrs. Landis had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Fry Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the Fry Community Homemakers. She was the matriarch of a highly regarded family. She was the daughter of the lagte Lewis Aquires and Tamer Finn Squires. She was the widow of Shively Landis. Their marriage had endured over 48 years. She leaves 22 direct living descendants.

Bro. Larry Wisdom and Glen Landis will be officiating. Folding flag on last day of school - ever, at John Adair

A Moment in History: Folding the flag for the last time at John Adair Intermediate School today were Micah Odom, Mr. Jason Curry, and Jake Spoon. Next school year, 2013-2014, Adair County's Schools will be reconfigured into four schools, with elimination of John Adair Intermediate School and Col. William Casey Elementary and the opening of the newest facility, Adair County Primary Center. Besides ACPC, the District will have Adair County Elementary School (ACES), Adair County Middle School, and Adair County High School. - Jennifer Main

Lloyd Akers, Casey County, KY (1939-2013)

He was a native of Amba, Floyd County, KY, and a resident of Casey County, KY, at the time of his death. He worked as a pipe insulator in Detroit, Michigan was a member of the Kindom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. He leaves 7 direct living descendants

Lloyd Akers passed away Sunday May 19, 2013 at his home in Casey County, KY. He was 73.

Memorial service will be held at 2pmCT/3pmET Saturday June 1, 2013 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 119 KY 49, in Liberty, KY. Cremation rites were honored by McKinney-Brown Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 1pmCT/2pmET, Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Sulphur Well Methodist Church, 1755 Sulphur Well-Knob Lick Road, Sulphur Well, KY, with burial in the Williams Cemetery, in Metcalfe County, KY. Visitation will be from 10amCT, until service time Tuesday at the church.

The red towels were added three years ago and have become very popular with our graduates, as you observed. Picture of CWC Final Open House jogs memory

Writer remembers when old Columbia Graded & High School Building was condemned and Grade Center was moved to CWC, then a new building with a lot of advantages - but it was, at the time, a temporary move. The next year her class was back on Graded Hill

After seeing the picture from CWC's final open house, it just jogged my memory a bit.

When I was in 7th grade at Columbia Junior High (in old Columbia Grade Ctr/Columbia High School building), the old building was condemned.

As a result, we were moved to the new Col. Wm. Casey building for the remainder of the school year.

2012 Adair tourism: $11,136,903, up from $10,566,321 in 2011

In keeping with a statewide trend, the annual survey of tourism spending in Kentucky shows an increase in Adair county for 2012. Total expenditures in Adair county for the past year was $11,136,903.00 compared to $10,566,321.00 in 2011. This shows that visitors are coming to our county and spending money.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - An Adair County High School Graduate, Anthony Kent Spires, and a Cumberland County High School Graduate, Jessica Lynn Roberts, both teachers in Warren County, KY, school system were among the recipients of the Excellence in Teaching Award given to 160 teachers from 59 school districts throughout Kentucky by receiving the Campbellsville University Excellence in Teaching Award Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Winters Dining Hall in the E. Bruce Heilman Student Center Complex on the CU campus.

James Wesley Wade, Summer Shade, KY (d. May 19, 2013)

He was a well known farmer, a life long resident of Summer Shade and was a member of the Summer Shade Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emma Jean Hays Wade, and the Jill Wade Smith family of Columbia, KY, and the Mike and Mark Wade families of Glasgow, KY. He leaves 11 direct living descendants.
