Impact Taylor County April 27, 2013, draws 500 volunteers

Blood drive almost double goal; 25,000 clothing items given away to 253 families, and Saturday night fish fry had approximately 1,000 in attendance. Writer recommends other counties - in light of Taylor County's success - have similar Impact events

By Martha Berry

Impact Taylor County was a huge success with over 500 volunteers doing all kinds of deeds out of kindness of their hearts. But the volunteers will be the first to tell you that they were the ones who were blessed. They spent the rainy day landscaping, repairing roofs, painting, anything that the homeowner needed to have done. There were 19 children in Bible School and the blood drive at First UMC yielded 55 pints. Our goal was 35!!

Approximately 25,000 items of clothing were given away to 253 families.

Then Saturday night there was a fish fry for approximately 1000 people ending with entertainment by "Driven\" and Sparky Taylor.

Info Link/ Find local information, county by county, at ky.gov

It's one of the great things about living in Kentucky: The incredible Ky.gov website. One could spend days perusing it. Most of us use it for the pages we're particularly interested in. Here's one address on the site we like: Government/Pages/Local a quick scan for local officials, state and national representatives, brief census information, and more. Is an often used resource for us to find basic information about Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties. One caveat: Apparently it is up to local representatives to keep the information up to date, so one wouldn't be wise to always take the information as the last word. - CM

Jackson Brower confesses mistake on actor/Amish issue

This story is a wonderful romance, the makings, Tv people of a great story about an Amishman's love of cars and the love of his life. Jackson Brower, a born again Adair Countian, Pennsyltuckian, and raconteur extraordinaire, recalls it from his Pellyton Days phase. Jackson Brower may not realize he's destined to come home to Barnett's Creek but he is under 1) The Adair County Retired Millionaire Program - You earn the money elsewhere but return to Columbia to spend it. Or, 2) The Adair County version of Once in Grace Always in Grace: Once a Born Again Adair Countian, Always an Adair Countian.

By Jackson Brower

Ah...if I would have bet that Amish Dan was an actor, I wouldn't have bet very much. I stand corrected. Times change in 30 years.

Around early 1980, an Amishman's nephew wanted a car so bad he went out and bought one, despite warnings that if he did, they would kick him out.
