Farmers Market on the Square: Hey Honey!

The first Farmer's Market on the Square will be 8am-12pm noon CT, Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Adair Annex Parking Lot, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY

By Barbara Armitage

With all the buzz about the new Farmer's Market on the Square you would think that a bee keeper or two would have flown in.

For this to be a well rounded Farmer's Market we need to have some local honey for sale. If you are a Kentucky bee keeper and you're interested in selling your honey the Farmer's Market on the Square needs you.

With both annual memberships and daily booth rentals it's a great deal.

Chromebooks for Casey: We're just $200 away from match total

There was one donation yesterday, but it was a big help: With just $200 more today, the match total for an additional $500 donation will be reached. Maybe a hero will do that. Or several small donors will chip for a big kickoff for the weekend. Just a little way to go to get the 30 laptops on their way!

Patty Jones writes:
Where we stand right now.....

As of this morning we had one donation yesterday and still need $200 more dollars donated to reach the match challenge and add another $500 to the total. If that happens we will be $900 from our goal. In short, we need the equivalent of 11 more people to donate the $99 needed for each Chromebook to reach our goal and have the Chromebooks on their way. - Patty Jones, Principal, Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School.

Make your donation now at Chromebooks for Casey. Is there a hero out there who wants to kickstart the drive by donating $200 this morning - before breakfast - which would mean, with the matching funds, an additional $700 for the drive? Wow! What a giving opportunity. It's really like a $3,500 gift: with the money, $500 laptops will be purchased for just $99 each. If $200 is too big, what about $84 to put the drive over $2,000? Whatever you give, any amount will be appreciated. - CM

Ronald Reagan's words apply to Feed Plant: Trust but verify

Make up your own mind on Tyson Foods entrance into Adair County through its wholly owned subsidiary, Cobb-Vantress. Today, the information is online. A starting point is in Wikipedia: Tyson Foods/Controversies, in Wikipedia. We're asking readers to do the research and send their opinions. Keep an open mind, both ways, but be aware that events are moving quickly and it may be out of citizens hands in a short time. At CM we'll do our best to get the facts on the costs, the tax breaks, the incentives, and to help weigh the benefits and the downside. We'd like to know both sides of the controversy. -ED WAGGENER

Now is the time to do your own research and decide whether the effort by the Columbia/Adair County Economic Development Board's to bring what is believed to be - they still won't say publicly what it is - a chicken feed plant to the Green River Commerce Park.

So far, there isn't enough information available to know whether the plant will be, long term, a plus for the county, either economically or environmentally.
