A suggestion: Make speed limit 35mph out to Bypass

Maury E. Lewis writes:
I was out the other day and went by the Columbia post office and then I headed to Walmart. The speed limit pulling out of the post office is 35 or 40 and then when you get closer to the intersection of the bypass the speed goes up to 55. Why don't they just leave the speed limit at 35 until after you go through the light at the bypass? melewi - Maury E. Lewis
Thanks, Maury E. Lewis. And thanks to everyone, for making suggestions to end the carnage on the streets, sidewalks and crossings, and highways. Thanks for the tips for better driving techniques, for the tips from truckers, and the reminders to be more attentive, and the reminders to improve signage, enforcement - even improvements in highway design. Would that public officials who could do something about the situation would act. But remember not to expect too much leadership from government leaders. - EW

Snake hunting season off to headstart in Harrodsburg, KY

Speckles the Cat poised for record '13 Garter Snake Season

By Mike Watson

I know traffic problems and other issues are the big news this week, but I have another Harrodsburg off-season story.

Two garter snakes were left on our back porch Friday, February 8, 2013, by Speckles the Cat, who has earned the title Snake Killer, since she delivered up 14 last year.

The temperature maxed out at 64 degrees F. here on Thursday, which may account for Speckles jump on the snake season. Still I was surprised that one of the two snakes was a wee one, a baby. Mike Watson
