Poetry by Robert Stone: Beyond the present moment, a sonnet

Beyond the present moment
-a sonnet for my own birthday
I see and then forget most things I saw
and wonder if reality is more
than memories from which I can't withdraw
because me now requires the me before.

I am not satisfied with now and seek
to reach beyond the present moment view.
I am not certain and expect some tweak
to falsify the future past anew

I would that images were fixed to show
a single meaning signaling a time
when either good above or bad below
example settled, sealed with its own chime.

To craft a record true of life events
demands examination of intents.

- Robert Stone, 5 February 2013

Supt. Reed: Speeding bus not an Adair County one

Comments about Wants Metcalfe Co. bus to slow down on Chestnut Grove Road

Superintendent Alan Reed writes:
Please let your readers know that certain roads in Adair County are shared with other county's school buses. The article pointed out the bus which was allegedly speeding was from Metcalfe County. However, that information could be easily overlooked, and one could assume the bus was one of ours. Thankfully, that was not the case.

Our Transportation Director, Mr. David Jones, goes to great lengths to investigate reports involving Adair County school buses, even to the point of requesting assistance from state or local police to check speed with radar. Student safety is taken very seriously and is priority number one.

We have no authority for buses other than our own. I would encourage anyone who witnesses a bus from another school district being operated in an unsafe manner to contact the superintendent or transportation director of that district. I feel they would want details involving what you have witnessed. Sincerely, ALAN REED

Shout-out AMEN for call for action on speeding school bus

'No one should die to get someone's attention' -

Jennifer Parker writes:
I agree-AMEN, Cate! I live on Chestnut Grove Rd. and also have contacted the bus garages a time or two regarding the bus speed. Same results, nothing changes!! I know others on our road who have fears of being on the road if the bus is due to come and I have encouraged them also to please call the bus garage. It's a hazard and no one should die to get someone attention. Adult nor child. I've been nearly run off the road by the bus on Toria Road. Also, and I most always have my toddler grandchild in the car with me. Something needs to get these drivers attention rather than hurrying to get their routes completed. Safety should be their priority!! --Jennifer Parker
