Epicurean Kentuckian: Gentle Green Soup

2013-01-19 - Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Gentle Green Soup is a minor twist on avocado soup. It's simple, quick, and and tasty. This serving for one was made with one avocado, sauteed and mashed with a fork, vegetable broth to desired thickness, a dollop or two of half and half, salt to taste, and olive oil The topping is diced cucumber, cilantro, carrot, and red sweet pepper. Most of the topping was for color, which the cucumber doesn't have, but the cucumber is the perfect taste complement. The edible spoon was pretty okay. - EW

A bear is missing

It has been brought to my attention this week that Woody's bear fell out of the tree in the last of the heavy rains and was washed away by the high waters of Petty's Fork, just south of my place.

JIM: Truthmongering is a lonely, thankless business

A personal matter of current history

By JIM
CM North of Green River Correspondent at Large

Ohhhhh, Brother Ed, this truthmongering is a lonely, thankless business, a trial and tribulation the likes of which only a few men can endure, myself being not one of that number, I fear.

But meanwhile, back north of the Green River...

So there I was in Aldi this Saturday afternoon past, stuck in traffic smack dab in the "health and beauty" aisle.

Coach Travis Gay clarifies location of practice field

Travis Gay writes:
Thanks for the coverage on the new practice field and helping to share our excitement. I just wanted to point out that the field closest to the bleachers was approved last night (Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Adair County School Board meeting. - CM) and the field farthest from the bleachers is a project which may or may not be undertaken - depending on funding availability - Travis Gay

Chuck Hinman: Reflections On A Happy Birthday

Chuck Hinman: Reflections On A Happy Birthday
Chuck recounts events of his 82nd birthday. He went to be with his Lord on December 15, 2011, but he is still alive to us through his many stories. Robert Stone, who has forwarded them to ColumbiaMagazine, says there just a few more "new to CM" stories but he - who has never tired of re-reading them - feels sure CM readers will enjoy seeing the old ones again. He wishes to thank Alsie Mae Stapleton of Oklahoma for forwarding him copies of her files. She began to collect Chucks stories from the beginning.
