Tech Link: Story on comeback for Flickr There a story on The British Journal of Photography website about the re-emergence of an old friend of ColumbiaMagazine.com, Flickr.com. Outside of receiving photos directly to CM, Flickr.com has proved by far the easiest for us to use. In the past year or so, there's been little growth for the CM group at Flickr.com. But that may be changing. Here's a link on part of the picture: Flickr stages comeback . We hope more readers will take another look, and maybe join ColumbiaMagazine group on Flickr PS: We've actually already noticed a slight increase in the number of photographs being submitted to ColumbiaMagazine.com. We greatly appreciate the extraordinary quality of the photos sent by loyal CM and Flickr.com readers. - CM 2012-12-14 06:31:58 | Comments | Printable version
Birds of Kentucky: Relative rarity of hawks make them special Comments re photo 47872 Birds of Kentucky Red Shouldered Hawk by Kay Haupt Heather Evans writes: I love hawks, I don't see them very often so that makes them even more special. They are the royalty of the avians, not to downplay all the beautiful song birds. A good lens makes for a great picture, which I do not have, but perhaps it's moot as I usually see them while I am driving. - Heather EvansThanks: For the insight on hawks. They evolved into incredible creatures. Bird photography is as tough or as simple as you want to make it. Hope you'll try your hand and find the standard which makes you happy. -CM 2012-12-14 06:10:42 | Comments | Printable version

Birds of Kentucky: Chicken, guinea hunting eagle at Gadberry Click on headline for item with photo(s)Comments re photo 47872 Birds of Kentucky Red Shouldered Hawk Charles Marshburn writes: A beautiful bird! The hawks and other birds of prey are evidently hungry and showing themselves more frequently in the neighborhood. Yesterday we had a bald eagle visit and scan our chickens and guinea fowl. The picture we took was not the normally fine quality produced by the fowl photographer in residence. If there is a way to enhance the photograph, we would be grateful to whomever has the capability. --Charles MarshburnThanks, Charles Marshburn: This photo shows a bald eagle closer to Columbia in your part of Adair County than has ever been reported here. Sightings are fairly common south of Inroad and on into Cumberland County, and maybe those who have seen them in the twin cities of Fairplay-Gadberry just didn't think they were news. Truth is, with several hundred photos in CM Birds of Kentucky, there still are nearly enough. As for the photo you sent, it's grand, as is. Absolutely no apologies. It's a testament to why folks move here from other parts of the country. -EW 2012-12-14 04:39:34 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Birds of Kentucky
