Mark McKinley donates to children's foundation in honor of sister

2012-11-03 - Photo by Linda Waggener.
Mitzi McKinley Bault hugs her generous big brother, Mark, who gave up half of his two-foot long hair braid in her honor. Mitzi has battled cancer five times, having to go through losing all of her hair three times. Even after his haircut, there's still enough of Mark’s braid left that Mitzi could tug on it, as she's doing in the photos. Stylist Amanda Keltner did the cut, taking off 12 inches of the long braid, and she will be sending Mark's hair to the children's foundation wig program where a wig will be created for a child with cancer.

Haircut honors Mitzi Bault, creates a wig for a child with cancer

Mitzi McKinley Bault had hugs and laughter for her big brother, Mark, who gave up half of his two-foot long hair braid in honor of Mitzi's battles with cancer. Stylist Amanda Keltner cut 12 inches off the long braid, and she will be sending Mark's hair to the children's foundation where a wig will be created for a child with cancer.

As do the others who know her, I marvel at my husband's sister Fay's youngest daughter, Mitzi McKinley Bault, a successful business woman, an active daughter, mom, grandmom, sister, niece, friend, a lifetime partner of Ricky Bault -- and a five-time cancer survivor. Five.

Look what That Woman has done: Green Beans in November!

They've picked Labor Day planted Roma green beans in today on Tucker's Station, all because this contrary woman had to show everybody it could be done in Adair County! She thinks they may have them all the way up to Thanksgiving Day.

By Barbara Armitage

I've always taken everything as a challenge. Tell me I can't do it and well, I'm going to move heaven and earth trying.

By the first of August gardeners were telling me that the season was over. By Labor Day they were pulling up what was left of the plants and calling it's quits. Me? I was still planting.

These Roma Green Beans were grown right here in my own garden at Tucker's Station Farms. They spend their days basking in the Autumn sunshine and at night they are tucked in under special row covers to keep the frost off them. It's a little work but the rewards are wonderful.

If things go as planned we will be eating home grown green beans for Thanksgiving dinner. - Barbara Armitage

The Midori Concert was AWESOME

We're definitely on the map. - DOUG McCAMMISH

By Doug McCammish

I'm probably too old to use the word "Awesome," but it fits. We never dreamed that we would have the opportunity to attend a concert by a world-renowned artist like Midori (left) in our little town of Columbia, KY. We were provided that opportunity by Lindsey and others, and we very much appreciate it.

It was AWESOME to hear the violin and piano played so beautifully and expertly. The audience was enthralled and applauded on their feet at the end, hoping for more.

One more thing - I visited Midori's website this morning and found the following:
"This month Midori continues her recital tour with pianist Ozgur Aydin in the United States and Europe. They present a program of works by Beethoven, Webern and Crumb in Washington, D.C.; Columbia, Kentucky; Boston, Massachusetts; Cleveland Ohio and New York City, before flying to Europe for recitals in Antalya and Istanbul, Turkey; London, England and Rome, Italy."
Do you see that!! Washington, D.C.; Columbia, Kentucky; Boston, Mass. !!! There we are! Thanks, Phil Hanna and LWC. We're definitely on the map. --Doug McCammish
