Look what That Woman has done: Green Beans in November!

They've picked Labor Day planted Roma green beans in today on Tucker's Station, all because this contrary woman had to show everybody it could be done in Adair County! She thinks they may have them all the way up to Thanksgiving Day.

By Barbara Armitage

I've always taken everything as a challenge. Tell me I can't do it and well, I'm going to move heaven and earth trying.

By the first of August gardeners were telling me that the season was over. By Labor Day they were pulling up what was left of the plants and calling it's quits. Me? I was still planting.

These Roma Green Beans were grown right here in my own garden at Tucker's Station Farms. They spend their days basking in the Autumn sunshine and at night they are tucked in under special row covers to keep the frost off them. It's a little work but the rewards are wonderful.

If things go as planned we will be eating home grown green beans for Thanksgiving dinner. - Barbara Armitage

They laughed when she planted Green Beans Labor Day

2012-11-03 - 1535 Bull Run Road, Columbia, KY - Photo By Barbara Armitage. But now she can be the Little Red Hen - Barbara Armitage refuses to be told it can't be done. These Roma Green Beans were just picked from bean stalks planted when most gardeners were pulling up plants getting the ground ready for winter.
