Waffle House is Maury's on the road place to stop

She's been urged to write a book about Waffle House experiences

Maury Lewis writes:
I would like to see a Waffle House in Columbia also. I like their omelets and I also like the chicken breast they serve. I also like that you can go any time of the night or day. That is our on the road traveling place to stop. We eat at them so much my daughter told me I need to write a Waffle House review book because we have run into so many things in them. Some good some funny and some not so good. The not so good was on the way the people acted, not the food. - MElewi

Grass clippings on roadways are dangerous for bicylists, too

Diane Rose writes:
It is not just the motorcycles that are affected. It is also dangerous for the bicyclists. I have been known to go into the other lane to avoid grass clippings. We are often concerned about what is in the grass clippings also- -dead tires, wires, and sharp objects. object --Diane Rose
Thanks - Maybe more people will just practice the Golden Rule and remember the danger they are putting cyclists - motorized and otherwise, in. -EW

Grass clippings blown on roadways endanger cyclists

By Joe Hare

I have noticed from time to time that we as motorcycle riders have a problem when traveling of two lane roads that have no shoulder, IE Hwys 80, 206, 704 and roads such as these. The problem is when mowing many people blow grass onto the road way. This is very dangerous, especially when the grass is wet, to motorcycle riders.

The rest of the story on the J.T. Coomer Bldg. bus garage

Credit where credit is due. Idea for dramatic renovation came with leadership from Classified Employees Donnie Curry, Tommy Murray, Ronnie Bryant, and Roy Lockridge who came through magnificently, Superintendent Reed and Director of Student Transportation gratefully acknowledge
Click on headline for story with photo(s)

By Ed Waggener

It would have been simple to assume that the transformation of the J.T. Coomer Bus Garage was a result of the presence of a new superintendent taking office.

"That's not the case," Superintendent Alan W. Reed said. "The idea came from some dedicated Classified Employees, who presented the idea, and did the work on their own time."

The four employees, Director of Student Transportation David Jones said, were Donnie Curry, Tommy Murray, Ronnie Bryant, and Roy Lockridge. The work was completed just days before the passing of Roy Lockridge (Roy Lockridge, Adair County, KY (1943-2012)); so, in a way, the renovation is a monument to the memory of a wonderful man who worked on the project.

The administration did provide the materials, but the work was done almost entirely by the four men, and, Mr. Reed said, "David Jones. He may be in an administrative position, but he doesn't hesitate to roll up his sleeves and help."

Carol Perkins: Chicken supper, literally

This episode is about the time the writer failed to tell her husband to take barbecued chicken out of oven in exactly 45 minutes, rather than telling him it would be done when she got home from play practice and rehearsal ran 30 minutes late.
The next earlier Carol Perkins column: Carol Perkins: Wrinkles no more

By Carol Perkins

There are people who take what a person says literally and those who can figure out what is literal and what isn't. My husband is a literal man. So, when I tell him to pick me up somewhere "around ten" he wants me to be more precise. "Ten or five 'til or when?" I have to give him an exact time.
