Mrs. Ruth P. Thomas a kind dear person

Sammy Baker writes:
I want to express my condolences to the Ruth P. Thomas family. She was a kind, dear person. When I was a young boy I contracted polio and had to be under medical supervision for the duration of a school year. We had been attending Antioch School at the time but by the time I was better and heading back to school, Antioch School had combined with Breeding School. At that time Mrs. Thomas was my 3rd grade teacher. She was compassionate and caring and helped me through that year. She was always supportive and never let me think that I couldn't accomplish what I needed to catch up with my lost year of schooling. Because of her support I was able to succeed and carry on. She was a wonderful person who will be deeply missed by many. - Sammy Baker

Some tie-ups on I-65 south in Warren County, KY

By Kiersten Jaggers
News from KY Transportation Cabinet, District 3, Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (2012-03-30) - With spring break next week for many and several traveling to New Orleans to see the games, traffic on Interstate 65 is starting to experience back ups.

As of 12:30pmCT, Friday, there was approximately a two mile back up for southbound I-65 between Scottsville Road/Exit 22 and Cemetery Road/Exit 26. Traffic was moving at approximately 5-10 mph through this stretch of I-65.

Part of the issue with the bottleneck occurring at Exit 22 is the lane closure in place for the construction project currently ongoing at the interchange. Traffic is pushed down to two lanes at this location on I-65.

If you have plans to travel southbound on I-65 today, an alternate route through Warren County may save some time and gas. -Kiersten Jaggers

Poem: One Didn't

One didn't
Three men were tried for crimes against humanity.
Two committed crimes.
One didn't.

Three men were given government trials.
Two were given fair trials.
One wasn't.

Three men were whipped and beaten.
Two had it coming.
One didn't.

Three men were given crosses to carry.
Two earned their crosses.
One didn't.

Three men were mocked and spit at along the way.
Two cursed and spit back.
One didn't.

Three men were nailed to crosses.
Two deserved it.
One didn't.

Three men agonized over their abandonment.
Two had reason to be abandoned.
One didn't.

Three men knew death was coming.
Two resisted.
One didn't.

One, two, three men died on three crosses.
Three days later, two remained in their graves.
One didn't.

CM chastised over coverage some ball game

Von Price writes:
With the "Battle of the Bluegrass," coming up, I cannot believe that there has been no support of this in your ColumbiaMagazine. Living in Louisville, it is a city of Red or Blue with everybody showing support. This is an amazing time for both universities. I am sure there will be more for the Big Blue, in Columbia, just as there are more Cards fans in Louisville. I just think that this is an opportunity for Kentucky basketball to really shine for the state. Please! Can we show just a little support? Von Price, Louisville, KY

The year when Democratic precinct conventions were Huge Deal

And that brings to mind the year Bobby W. Loy took the party machinery away from T.P. Phelps, et al; the year the Honorable Grover C. Gilpin tallied the vote by separating a factional East Columbia mob into sheep and goats in Delmer Larue Jessie's Fruit Market Parking lot, the year there were likely more Democrats at precinct conventions than in all the rest of Kentucky put together. It's been a long time ago. I remember it all, except the exact year. Would appreciate help on that. A 172 year old man can forget some of the details. -EW
PS: There's A Lot going on today. Precinct elections are at 10amCT, the huge Farm & Garden Expo starts at the same time, and we've got word from a reader in Louisville of some kind of ball game in New Orleans later in the day. We're checking into that, pedalling as fast as we can. -EW

By Ed Waggener

It's as grassroots as it gets in American politics. Adair County Democrats will be doing what Democrats across the Commonwealth will be doing today, meeting in small and big conclaves in precinct conventions to begin the larger process of electing what can be very powerful county Executive Committee power, which, in turn, elects one person to the most important post, the county chair. That post is now held by young Benjamin Loy, who appears likely to hold the post as long as he wants to.
