Doubleheader at Egnew Park at Lindsey Wilson Sports Park, 820 Hanley Lane, Columbia, KY By Dan White News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - With the win against 13th ranked Campbellsville (KY), Lindsey Wilson starter Derek Cape became the Blue Raiders all-time leader in wins and got a three-game weekend series with the Tigers off to a good start with a 4-2 win on Friday, March 30, 2012, at Egnew Park. Cape (7-1) reached 23 wins, passing Joey Talley on the all-time list, but for a brief period in the eighth inning it looked like Campbellsville had a chance to spoil the fun. Leading 3-1 heading into the frame, the Tigers (25-8, 7-3 MSC) got hot, leading off with single by shortstop Tanner Nielsen who moved to second on a wild pitch. Left fielder Danny Lapchak hit an RBI single in the next at-bat and suddenly it was a one-run game. Lapchak was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a double and the next Tiger batter flied out to right, but they rallied with two outs to put runners on third and first after pinch hitter Marc Garza reached on a walk. In arguably the most pressure-filled situation of the season, reliever Daniel Pulliam entered the game, looking to preserve the milestone win for Cape. The junior did just that, getting a pop out to second to end the inning, followed by two strikeouts and a fly out to end the game. It was a smooth inning and a third to pick up the save for Pulliam (1) who got extra help with another Blue Raider run in the bottom of the eighth. Center fielder Manuel Alonso, third baseman Drew Barrett and designated hitter Dustin Murphy all drove in a run for Lindsey Wilson (23-10, 9-4 MSC) with one hit, while first baseman Manuel Ozoria went 3-for-4 and scored a run. Cape pitched 7-2/3 innings for the win, allowing two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Lapchak paced the Tigers at the plate, connecting for two hits, an RBI, walk and run scored. Catcher Keaton Neeb joined him as the only Campbellsville players with multiple hits. Leading just 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Blue Raiders got a crucial two-out hit from Murphy which allowed Ozoria to score from second and ultimately stand as the winning run with the Tigers scoring their second run in the eighth. Campbellsville's Phillip Gerber (2-1) took the loss, throwing six innings while allowing three runs on eight hits and finishing without a strikeout.Now attention turns to Saturday's doubleheader between the Blue Raiders and Tigers which is scheduled for a nine-inning game at 12pm noon CT, followed by a seven-inning game to end the series at Egnew Park inside Lindsey Wilson Sports Park, 820 Hanley Lane, Columbia, KY.
