It was a special season and I was fortunate to be part of it -PAUL PECK By Chris Wells, Sports Information Director News from Lindsey Wilson College NEW ORLEANS, LA - Lindsey Wilson College men's basketball coach Paul Peck has been named the 2012 Don Meyer National Coach of the Year. Peck received the honor tonight, Friday, March 30, 2012, at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet in conjunction with the NCAA Basketball National Championships Marriott Convention Center Hotel. The award is presented annually to the top NAIA men's basketball coach. "This is great honor and I humbly accept the Don Meyer award on behalf of my team and all the people at Lindsey Wilson College who helped us have a terrific year," Peck said. "This award means so much because it has Don Meyer's name on it. Coach Meyer was one of the greatest coaches of all time in our sport and to have my name linked to this award is truly remarkable. Lindsey Wilson finished with a 21-10 record during the 2011-12 season, including a 12-4 Mid-South Conference record. Lindsey Wilson captured the program's first out-right MSC regular season title this season and its second overall title. The Blue Raiders advanced to the program's 10th NAIA National Tournament before falling in the opening round to Evangel (Mo.) University. "Every coach of the year award revolves around a successful team and I'm proud of our team's accomplishments this season," Peck said. "It was a special season and I was fortunate to be part of it." According to CollegeInsider.com, The award is named in honor of the one game's winningest coaches. In February of 2010 Meyer announced his retirement from coaching but continues at Northern State in the role of Regents Distinguished Professor and Assistant to the President. In 38 seasons at Hamline, Lipscomb and Northern State, he compiled an astounding 923-324 record. Finalist for the award included; Peck, Ken Ammann (Concordia University Irvine), Bob Bolen (Mountain State University), Al Bruehl (Robert Morris University Illinois), Tommy Dillon (Southern Polytechnic State University), Dave Holmquist (Biola University), Andy Sharpe (Martin Methodist College), Doug Tolin (Oklahoma Baptist University), Russell Vanlandingham (Our Lady of the Lake University) and Chad Warner (Shorter University) .Peck earned Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year in early March as voted on by his peers and was a finalist for the John McLendon National Coach of the Year award, presented to the top college coach across all divisions.
