Billy Joe Fudge thinks world class truck stop is needed here Agrees that neighbors have voiced some legitimate concerns, but sees ensuing development which might bring Cracker Barrel - and says maybe even a General Motors plant might not be far behind Comments re article 50439 With a little cooperation Big Al would help put Columbia on the map By Billy Joe Fudge I could not agree with Big Al more. A world class multi-million dollar truck stop will be the perfect compliment to this world class community which is poised to finally be recognized as the Crossroads of America. Columbia Kentucky is situated within a day's drive of two thirds of the population of North America. The other third outside the reach of a day's drive of Columbia will just have to suffer through their loss and find their own West of the Rockies' Crossroad. With cooperation, Big Al would help put Columbia on the map He says a truck stop in Columbia, KY, would be a gold mine for the community. He's het up, but probably without realizing that Miss Vicky wasn't pointing an accusing finger at truckers, but rather, we think, at the scoundrels, scalawags, rouges, and thieves who might insinuate themselves into their pull-off camping area, and might attempt to get her stuff before they got 'lead poisoning." -ED By Big Al Owens, the Big Rig Trucker I am a trucker and I am offended by the choice of words quoted in ColumbiaMagazine.com about truckers. It would lead folks to believe that truckers are thieves and rogues. If you knew the life that most truck drivers lead, you would understand the need for a truckstop to be placed in this area. QUERY: Where was the birthplace? Phil Coffey asks: Happy Birthday, Ed. Where were you born? - Phil C.A awesomely astute question, Phil Coffey, unasked at this moment by a single reporter from the New York Times. If I was there when it happened, I don't remember it; but they tell me I was born at or within a few feet of where the picnic tables. It is well marked, I guess. There was a house there, then, so I guess I was born inside that. -Ed 2012-03-06 09:55:17 | Comments | Printable version

Update: Good part left out of the news report on City Council In the pressure to get the Council meeting report, March 5, 2012: Columbia to annex S. KY 61 land up immediately following the historic meeting in which the City of Columbia annexed property on the SE corner of "The Crossroads of America" - the Louie B. Nunn Parkway and KY 61 South - we failed to mention one of the best part's of Victoria Pike's presentation to the City mothers and fathers. She said that the semi's on the ramp leading onto the westbound lane is where semi-truckers park and spend the night. She said they are just yards from her bedroom window. "And let me tell you, if you annex us, and one of those people tries to come through my window and take my stuff, you'll be getting a call from me to come get 'em and they won't be walking when you get there!" (or words close to that.) -CMWe promise to do better writing up these accounts in the future. 2012-03-06 07:06:13 | Comments | Printable version
