Billy Joe Fudge thinks world class truck stop is needed here

Agrees that neighbors have voiced some legitimate concerns, but sees ensuing development which might bring Cracker Barrel - and says maybe even a General Motors plant might not be far behind
Comments re article 50439 With a little cooperation Big Al would help put Columbia on the map

By Billy Joe Fudge

I could not agree with Big Al more. A world class multi-million dollar truck stop will be the perfect compliment to this world class community which is poised to finally be recognized as the Crossroads of America.

Columbia Kentucky is situated within a day's drive of two thirds of the population of North America. The other third outside the reach of a day's drive of Columbia will just have to suffer through their loss and find their own West of the Rockies' Crossroad.

The neighbors do voice some legitimate concerns but truck stops of today are much more of a home away from home than a staging area for Hell's Angels to set off on raids of defenseless law abiding communities as portrayed in the movies. Besides, should worse come to worse, we have an Annie Oakley and her cache of weapons to guard the perimeter and that catalyst of calm, pacifist editor of ColumbiaMagazine to organize a peaceful cultural resistance.

With the planting of a truck stop in Columbia, can the blooming of a Cracker Barrel, Comfort Inn, Red Lobster, Macy's and a General Motors manufacturing facility be far behind?
