Bakeries in the Bluegrass, re: Fig Jam

Tami Wilson writes:
Hi Pen,

Love fig jam, with a cheese and fruit plate!

Wondering if you've ever been to Bluegrass Baking in Lexington. If you have not been, you should check it out next time you're in town and they're open. They have wonderful artisanal breads, pastries and desserts, and are locally owned. I think you'd really appreciate the quality of their goods.

They are on Clay's Mill at Wellington- in a small shopping center, and they are fabulous. They don't have a lot of room for a group to enjoy the goodies there, only a couple of small tables for two inside, and a few more outside. They do take cards.

Oh, also there's European Delights just down from Man O' War on Nicholasville Rd. They're in the big shopping center on the left (if heading out of Lex). There's a Red Robin burger joint near it in the same area. This place does have seating for small groups. Stunning cakes and pastries!! All butter, no shortening! BTW Bluegrass Baking is very "pure" in general, but does use shortening in the pie crust...

Happy eating, --Tami Wilson
Tami, Thanks for writing -- we haven't tried them yet, but they're now definitely on our list!

Thousands of Sandhill Cranes are gargling their way South along the Greenhills Flyway this brisk mid-Autumn morning. What a pure joy it is to be a part of God's creation.

A day like this and events such as these lead us to somewhat understand why our forefathers chose this time of year to celebrate with a spirit of Thanksgiving.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Great Cheese controversy heats up

So far, no gunplay oi killings, but tempers may be rising. At least Adair Countians get riled over important matters, holy matters, like the ADAIR Band and Cheese Orthodoxy. Still nothing seems sacred anymore: Not even Home, Motherhood, foxhunting, but, thank heaven, Velveeta sure is. The AAA thinks something has to be did.
Comments re article 48314 Even better with proper cheese

Maury E Lewis writes:
Proper cheese to me is the cheese I like not one that someone else says is the correct cheese to eat with grapes or fig preserves. My favorite cheese today is Creamy Havarti Cheese. The regular Havarti cheese is good but the Creamy Havarti is excellent to my taste buds. Regular Havarti is available in Walmart Deli and The creamy Havarti can be bought in their cheese display at the front door. Just a little information from beautiful Joppa in Adair County Ky. - MAURY E. LEWIS
Thanks, Maury, I guess. Our readers know you blew in here from off. And, besides, I guess you can't be blamed for Havarti, though, more than that boy of mine.
