ADAIR wins 20th Kentucky State Marching Band championship!

BOWLING GREEN, KY (2011-10-29, 11:40pmCT) Adair County High School Marching Band has just won the 2011 Kentucky State Marching Band Class AAA Band Championship.

The victory marks the 20th time we have won the No. 1 spot.

We are in the middle of awards presentations. I'll send complete details, with the time for the arrival of the band back in Columbia on Sunday, later. We are so happy! -SHAMARIE CLAIBORNE, from L.T. Smith Stadium on the Western Kentucky University campus.

Blue Raiders extend road win streak to six, going back to 2010 season

NITRO, WV - During its winning streak, the Lindsey Wilson College football team has won in come-from-behind fashion, with a dominate defensive performance and with an aerial assault.

Today, the Blue Raiders added a fourth winning method; defeating host West Virginia University Tech 10-6 in a mud-filled day at Underwood Field at Nitro High School.

James F. (Jimmy) Harper, Columbia, KY (1935-2011)

He was a member of a large, distinguished Adair County family. He was a member of the Jamestown Christian Church were he served as a deacon. He worked over 30 years in the U.S. Postal Service and retired as Postmaster of Greensburg, KY. He was a member of Gideon's International, Russell County American Legion and was a past member of the Columbia City Council, Columbia-Adair County Fire Department, Columbia Utilities Commission, Columbia Housing Authority and served in many of positions of responsibility.

James F. "Jimmy" Harper, age 75 years of 613 Greensburg Street Columbia, KY passed away Friday, October 28, 2011 at 4:55pmCT at his home after a short illness.

Funeral service will be Monday, October 31, 2011 at 11amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Tony Stephens and Bro. Raymond Martin the officiating clergy. Interment will be in the Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY. The family request visitation after 2pmCT, on Sunday, October 31, 2011, at the funeral home.

ADAIR is in the finals for State Championship Class AAA Bands

The ADAIR County Marching Band is one of four which qualified for the State Championship tonight at L.T. Smith Stadium, Avenue of Champions, Bowling Green, KY.

ADAIR takes the field at 8pmCT. Other bands making the Class AAA finals are Russell County High School, Russell Springs, KY; Bourbon County High School, Paris, KY, and Garrard County High School, Lancaster, KY, out of 16 bands which competed this afternoon in the preliminaries at Allen County-Scottsville in Scottsville, KY.

The outcome of tonight's contest should be known at around 11pmCT. -SHAMARIE CLAIBORNE

Two injured in rear-ending accident in Campbellsville

Injuries a result of a collision on South Columbia Avenue on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at approximately 4:12pmET when a 2003 Pontiac Montana mini-vab rear ended a 2003 Kia Optima.

Narrative: On Saturday, October 29, 2011 at approximately 4:12 P.M., a 2003 Pontiac Montana mini-van being operated by 59 year old William Wethington of Campbellsville rear ended a 2003 Kia Optima being operated by 21 year old Brittany Jackson also of Campbellsville, KY. The Jackson vehicle was stopped on South Columbia Avenue waiting to make a left hand turn into Lucky Vista Motel when the Wethington vehicle struck her in the rear. A passenger in the Wethington vehicle, 60 year old Susan Wethington and a passenger in the Jackson vehicle, 21 year old Dennis Lamer both of Campbellsville were transported to Taylor Regional Hospital by Campbellsville Taylor County EMS. Another passenger in the Jackson vehicle, Jasmin Lamer was not injured.

Agencies Involved: Campbellsville Police Department, Campbellsville Taylor County EMS, and Campbellsville Taylor County Fire/Rescue.

Investigating Officers: Lt. Shannon Wilson.

Bobby Wayne Willis, Adair County, KY (1938-2011)

He was a highly regarded citizen of Columbia. He was a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church, a retired barber, a former rural mail carrier, and a former businessman, owner and operator of a Sears store.

She was a member of a respected Dunnville, KY family, a native of Logan WV, and was a retired bookkeeper for Davis Distributing Co.

Ruth Smith passed away Saturday October 29, 2011 at the Russell County Hospital. She was 75.

The ADAIR Band leaves from the Band Room, 230 General John Adair Drive, Columbia, KY this morning, Saturday, October 29, 2011, at around 9:35amCT, to start their quest for a 20th State Championship in the State Semi-Finals at Allen County-Scottsville High School, 1545 Bowling Green Road, Scottsville, KY, a journey of just 61.8 miles, 1 hour 9 minutes, according to Google Maps. .

These kids have worked so hard this year and have a great show so hopes are high.

They start the day in Scottsville at performing at 1:30pmCT in the semi-finals. If ADAIR is in the top 4 scores of semi's they will advance to the final 4 tonight at L.T. Smith Stadium, Avenue of Champions, Bowling Green, KY. A distance of 70.4 miles, 1 hour 22 minutes, from the Raymond Lacy Music room in Columbia, KY, acccording to Google Maps.

Pedestrian dies after being struck by automobile in Campbellsville, KY

A pedestrian, 32 year old Richard D. Wilson, Campbellsville, KY, died of injuries received after being struck by a vehicle on East Broadway near Kroger in Campbellsville KY, on Friday evening, October 28, 2011, at 9:25pmET/8:25CT

Incident: 21 year old, Brandy Buster of Leitchfield, KY was operating a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt east on Broadway when 32 year old Richard D Wilson Jr. of Campbellsville, KY, stepped into the path of the vehicle. Wilson was taken to Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY by Campbellsville Taylor County Emergency Medical Services. Wilson was pronounced dead a short time later from injuries suffered in the collision.

Agencies Involved: Campbellsville Police Department, Taylor County Sheriff Office, Campbellsville Taylor County Emergency Medical Services, Campbellsville Fire and Rescue.

Dedication of new $3,000 Christian Church at Knifley in 1921 drew largest crowd ever there, according to write up in Adair County News. which is as close to holy writ as can be found, no blasphemy intended. Posted with an urgent plea for someone to share a photo of this church before Corps came and tore it away for a lake which never gets high enough to put old Knifley in danger. -EW

The dedication of the Christian Church at Knifley, Ky., this county, will take place Sunday, October 30th, 1921 at 11 a.m. The people of that community are very proud of their new house of worship having spent the amount of three thousand dollars. It is a credit to the congregation and the community.

Two treated at Taylor Regional following collision

Two passengers involved in a two car collision on Friday afternoon, at 4:20pmET, October 28, 2011, on Lebanon Avenue at West Lake Drive in Campbellsville, KY were transported to Taylor Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries.

From the Campbellsville, KY, Police Department

Narrative: Officers from the Campbellsville Police Department and Units from the Campbellsville Taylor County EMS, and Campbellsville Fire Department responded to an injury accident on Lebanon Avenue at West Lake Drive.

28 year old Samantha Leigh driving a 1998 Ford Taurus was stopped North bound attempting to turn left on to West Lake Dr. She was struck in the rear by 56 year old Deborah L. Russell of Greensburg who was also traveling North on Lebanon Ave.

A 6 year old passenger in the Leigh vehicle was transported to Taylor Regional Hospital for minor injuries. A 28 year old passenger in the Russell vehicle Julie Antonio was transported to Taylor Regional Hospital for minor injuries.
