John Woodrick, Adair Co., KY (1942-2011)

"Johnny D." Woodrick was known as the "Guitar Man." He was the lead guitarist for Dr. Hook's Band. He was a former employee of the Adair Progress before retiring

John "Johnny D" Woodrick age 68 of Columbia, KY died Friday, January 14, 2011 at 4:50pmCT at Norton-Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY, following a short illness.

A memorial service with a time of reflection and remembrance of Johnny D. Woodrick will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 from 6 to 8pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.

The Columbia City Council voted to post $5,000 in earnest money, provided a matching $5,000 is posted by the Adair County Fiscal Court, to enter into negotiations to purchase the Christian Life Center at 901 Hudson ST (MAP) with the site serving as a Senior Citizens Center and as part of the the Columbia-Adair County parks system. The action was taken at the recommendation of Mayor Mark Harris at the February 7, 2011 City Council meeting. Update February 8, 2011: Fiscal Court voted unanimously to authorize the posting of $5,000 earnest money to hold property and while negotiations, approval of funding agencies is secured.

The Center for Rural Development is accepting applications from eighth-grade students through March 4 for 2011 Rogers Explorers program. Leadership camps are held at Lindsey Wilson, University of the Cumberlands, and Eastern Kentucky University

Russell Co., KY - The Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of 48-year-old Ralph Creech of Jamestown. Creech was found lying in a field adjacent to his residence at approximately 6:21amCT, Tuesday, February 8, 2011, with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

I am so pleased to announce that Col. Wm. Casey Elementary School was notified today that we were awarded a continuation grant for our Camp Casey AfterSchool Program. For the past year the program has been maintained through volunteers, donations and fees due to the grant expiring the previous year. We are extremely grateful to our community partners such as the Lindsey Wilson College Bonner Leadership program, the Adair Progress, the Adair Co. Public Library and many more. Thanks to them and a determined coordinator, Mrs. Dana Harmon, the program has been kept alive to the joy of many students and parents.

Columbia Woman's Club thanks the community for a successful Shop & Share Drive At Kroger Russell Springs on Saturday February 5, 2011.

President Blair along with several volunteers opened the Shop & Share event hosted by the Russell Springs, KY Kroger. All proceeds were to benefit The Bethany House in Somerset, KY, which is an organization which assists victims of domestic violence.
