Mr. Coomer did so much for the children in our community

About: A small party to honor Mr Coomer at Sparksville Baptist

By Corine Rowe Petty

Just wanted to join all the others in wishing Mr. Brooks a Happy Birthday.

I grew up in Sparksville, and attended the Sparksville Baptist in 1953 when Bro. Blevins was pastor, and Bro. Walter Lay came later.

I got a lot of spiritual guidance from the people there at an early age.

God bless You, Mr. Coomer

About: A small party to honor Mr Coomer at Sparksville Baptist

By L.V. Turner

Mr. Coomer's acts of kindness go far beyond his church family. He would take James and me home after basketball practice for over two years and provided a positive role model. I look back over my 50 years and as with most of us can identify a select few that had profound influence in our life.

Mr. Coomer is one of those special people to whom I have not said "Thank You" enough.

God gives each of us the opportunity to make an impact on his children and Mr. Coomer has certainly exercised that aspect of life.

I am a better man, citizen, and Christian for having been lucky enough to know Mr. Brooks Coomer....

God Bless YOU...

Clarification on A-Team start in 1986

How Chris Rowe's specialized Tolkien knowledge saved the day

About: ACHS A-teams have built on legacy of great 1986 squad

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

A bit of clarification. 1985 was the year of our first regional championship and it consisted of the three you mentioned plus Chris Rowe. In 1986, the year of the KET Scolastic Challenge championship, I had already gone off to college to learn about COBOL. I was replaced on that team by Brian Melton, if my memory hasn't grown as dim as my brothers.

Columbia, KY

After directing movies in Hollywood for the past decade, I am excited that I have chosen to shoot my next movie, Awkward But Beautiful, in Columbia Kentucky.

I was born and raised in the south, and am happy to be able to come back to my southern roots for my third feature film. Being able to utilize the beautiful backdrops of the southern landscapes has always been a dream of mine, especially when summer begins its transformation to fall. The south has always felt like a close-knit community to me, like family, and I know that making a film in Columbia, KY, will be like a community event.

Wed., Feb 24, 2010 is the birthday of Mr. Brooks Coomer

Just use any Contact/Submit button to send a Birthday, In Memory Birthday, or Anniversary for today or any day in February or March. We'll do our best to update the list during the day.

Remembers riding to Cane Valley on horseback for groceries

Once, in World War II, on one trip, they forgot a ration stamp, and almost didn't get the sugar they had walked miles to the store, from the Smith Chapel communmity, to get. Rationing was a serious business in those days.

By Clara Smith Rodgers

Seeing the old bank building in Cane Valley. brings back so many good memories. When I was growing up in the 40s and 50s.

My dad and I would go to the store there where Mr. Frank Hutcheson was the man who owned the store.
