Legislative update from Bam Carney February 19, 2010

By State Representative Bam Carney

School dropout rate raised. Stray horse adoption easier. Bill helps jails. Military families helped on license plate purchases. Forgotten War bill. Drunken drivers licenses to be confiscated at accident scene. Combat veterans get new aid.

While the 2011-2012 budget details are being fine tuned, my colleagues and I turned our focus to other measures that deserve legislative action. House committees did not let the shortened week dampen their diligence as they quickly resumed their work.

Dating the Ann Curtis aerial photo:
The Adair Hotel was still standing

About: Memorable Old Columbia, KY: Can you date this aerial photo

To Ann Curtis, via CM:
Neat! I assume that's the old hotel in the corner of the square.Town Branch now covered (mostly) by Burton Ace, etc.

s/Doug McCammish

Thanks. I think you're right, We've getting emails and phone calls on this one. It seems almost every tiny element in the picture is inspiring comments. Pointing out the hotel brings back so many proud, poignant, and even painful memories and does help narrow the time, which I could tell, initially, was between the invention of the airplaine and before the Adair Justice Center. I'm sure that many, many people will appreciate your pointing out this landmark, which stood where the Adair Annex is today. -EW

On photos, announcements, news and feature stories, but we want to remind you to mark your calendar for Sunday with CM - it's a huge day for news, entertainment, history, and photos.

Everybody at ColumbiaMagazine.com is pedalling as fast as they can, and more is being posted than ever before, but because of another huge jump in interest, we are running slightly behind, and we apologize if your story, photo, or announcement isn't up yet.

If an item or picture you've recently sent hasn't been published, it is probably in the queue. There are some great snow photos, a fascinating history from "Jim," some bird pictures, some selections from the ColumbiaMagazine.com Group at Flickr.com which are so good they need the 100s of times exposure they will get on the front page of the magazine as they do on the highly read Flickr.com group site.
