Adair Garden Club to participate in Master Gardener program

Other Adair County gardeners invited. Group will carpool from Extension Office in Columbia on July 16, 2007 to attend informational meeting at Pulaski Extension Office, Somerset, KY

Master Gardeners (MGs) are a nationwide group of trained volunteers who work with the staff at their local Extension Service to provide consumers with reliable, up-to-date research based information about gardens and landscapes.

To become a Master Gardener you must complete a 13 week training course through Extension Services, in core subjects, taught by a horticulture agent and other specialists.

Welcome: Timothy Griffen Hardwick!

Caroline and Madeline Hardwick would like to announce the birth of their brand new baby brother, Timothy Griffen Hardwick. He arrived last night, June 21, 2009, at 9:32pm at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Griffen weighed in at 8 lbs. 13 ozs. and was 21 inches long. Caroline and Madeline are very proud of him and so are his parents, Tim and Jennifer Hardwick along with grandparents, Jane and Curtis Hardwick and Peggy and Mike Ellis. -DIANNE BENNINGFIELD

Adair Co. School Board report June 18, 2009

In the June 18, 2009 board meeting:
  • Board re-appoints Brenda Mann as Treasurer
  • Board delays decisions on enrollment, transfer procedures
  • Lifetouch Studios get photography bid; Somerset Foods, food contract; Ohio Casualty (Reed Bros) gets insurance contract; and City Tires of Somerset gets tire contract
  • First and Farmers Bank gets bank of depository contract at 2.52% fixed interest
  • Interventionist positions created, to be funded with Title I stimulus money.

The Adair County School Board, meeting in a brief session, accepted bids on a number contracts for the coming school year, re-elected District Treasurer, selected a bank of depository, and voted to create two new RTI interventionist positions.

The board decided to table requests for waivers on pupil school assignment waivers until the July meeting.

In an eloquent, moving tribute to her father, the author said, "Our father Ellis Pickett was a small town barber who lived a simple life, but he had a big impact on so many people." The Father's Day story of this wonderful man was a moving experience for the congregation of Columbia Baptist Church, and one member, Sue Stivers, wanted Julia Ann to share it. Those of you who did not know him: I can describe him as a man of small stature, well known for his humor, the local barber of Cole and Pickett barber shop; deacon and member of the Columbia Baptist church and the first man to work in the nursery at the church.
