Sign sitter on Ivan Cabbell Rd is Eastern Kingbird

About: Birds of KY Established county character Ivan Cabbell RD

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I made sure this morning and this is a Eastern Kingbird, they look similar to the Fly Catchers at first glance. That's the reason I double checked because, with the angle of this photo it could be confusing.

The King Bird's distinctive crown on it''s head helps distinguish it from the Fly Catcher's, while the Fly Catchers have a flatter type crown. Another distinct feature if the Kingbird's fork tail feathers.

I hope that this helps in identifying Sharmarie's photo. If someone else can clarify or make the correct ID then please do.

s/Tony Harvey

Birds of KY: Established county character: Eastern Kingbird

2009-06-21 - Signpost, Ivan Cabbell RD, Columbia, KY - Photo by Shamarie Claiborne.
This is Shamarie Claiborne's bird, now an established Adair County character with its proprietory reign on the Ivan Cabbell Road signpost. Now it's more comfortable posing, apparently realizing that getting shot by Shamarie does not entail being the recipient of an unwanted projectile. Now all that's needed is for an ornithologist to provide the species identification. Tony Harvey Identification, June 22, 2009
