We want to welcome 2 new members of the Pinewood Board of Directors. They are Jack Collins and Barry Loy. They replace Richard Stephens and Jason Perkins.

We are looking forward to working with them during this special time at Pinewood.

Our meetings are on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:30pmCT. They are open to any Pinewood members who want to attend.

The Pinewood Board is made up of Craig Feese, Edgar Hancock, Chris Coomer, Dr. Ronald Rogers, James Thomas, Kathy Jones , Eric Goodin and now Jack Collins and Barry Loy.

LWC students to hold CROP hunger walk on Nov. 16, 2008

Lindsey Wilson College students began discussions this week about holding an event later this fall that will address hunger around the corner--and around the world.

On November 16, 2008, Lindsey Wilson will hold the Columbia CROP Hunger Walk. The walk, which is affiliated with Church World Service, is designed to address hunger issues in Columbia-Adair County and in the developing world.

Retiring LWC VP Ron Heath honored for higher education service

More than three dozen members of the Lindsey Wilson College and Columbia-Adair County communities turned out Thursday afternoon at the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center to honor Ron Heath for more than three decades of service in higher education.

Heath, who has been Lindsey Wilson vice president for advancement for more than three year, officially retired on Thursday, August 28, 2008.

Sir Erwin 2008 wins best attired in State Fair Karaoke contest

Sir Erwin has wowed them again! Through preliminary, semi-final, and final Karaoke entertainment contests at the Kentucky State Fair, Sir Erwin won the award for being the best attired. On Sunday evening, August 24, Sir Erwin wore his classic rust colored snake skin and satin suit! He sported a black traditional gentleman's Derby hat and wore black Italian-style shoes with a Cuban heel! More than 175 entertainers participated in the annual Kentucky State Fair Karaoke contest.

March of Dimes Bake Sale at Wal-Mart on Labor Day

Obituary: William Huddleton, 84, retired rural mail carrier

Mr. Huddleston was a member of an influential and respected family of South Adair County. He was a deacon in Beech Grove Separate Baptist Church, and was a rural mail carrier for over 20 years

William Huddleston, 84, 6675 Highway 55 South, Glens Fork, KY,passed away Thursday, August 29, 2008 at Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg, KY after several months illness.

The funeral service will be Sunday, August 31, 2008 at 1:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Rev. Hershey Giles the officiating clergy.

Obituary: Elva Firquin England, 92, retired Adair teacher

Mrs. England was one of the county's most beloved and respected citizens. She was a leader in United Methodist Church circles, a member of one of Adair County's most distinguished families, and is warmly remembered for her 34 years as a school teacher in the Adair County School District.

Elva Firquin England, 92, of Columbia, KY passed awayThursday, August 28, 2008 at 3:52 PM at the Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, Kentucky after several weeks illness.

CWC kids welcome three student teachers from LWC

Col. Wm. Casey Elementary welcomed three new student teachers to theirstaff this week.

The tradition of welcoming the new teachers by havingthem perform the "Chicken Dance" was conducted during the school'smorning assembly on Friday, August 29, 2008.

Outdoor classroom helps teachers make the science connection

Campbellsville University's seventh annual Science Connection Institute (SCI) in Forest Ecology was held this summer at the Clay Hill Memorial Forest (CHMF) and Joan White Howell Environmental Education Center.

The annual outdoor classroom event is designed to provide environmental inquiry and exploration for teachers. This year teachers attended from schools in Marion, Nelson, Mercer and Taylor counties. E.ON US sponsored the program this year.

CU Collegiate Historians to attend Presidential Inauguration

The 2008 presidential election, one of the most intense in history, will conclude on January 20, 2009, with the inauguration of either the first African-American or oldest president ever elected. A group of 40 students and faculty from Campbellsville University will be there to watch it happen.

Dr. Wendy Benningfield, associate professor of history, and Max Wise, assistant professor of political science, had been discussing the upcoming election when the subject of the inauguration came into the conversation.

For the second consecutive night, Lindsey Wilson struggled out of the gate.

ACHS Band Boosters will sell Thrasher prints at BSST Day

Fred Thrasher prints of the snowy scene at the home of Janice and Henry Giles entitled "Snowy Winter Scene" will be sold during the Buy, Sell, Swap and Trade Day on Labor Day, September 1, 2008, on the Square in Downtown Columbia, KY.

.The print was painted by Fred Thrasher in 2002. The band will be selling them for $40.00 each, or, they can be purchased by dropping by the band room at the school or by emailing Doyle Lloyd at: drimel@gmail.com.

The Adair County Band Boosters commissioned Fred Thrasher to paint the scene.

    Deadline to register for Blue Raider Youth Soccer Clinic is August 29, 2008
    Fall Clinic Registration. All Youth between the ages of 3 and 11 from Adair and surrounding counties are invited to join this recreational soccer clinic. The clinic will begin on September 2, 2008, running through September 30, 2008, with sessions being held at Lindsey Wilson College on Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. The Lindsey Wilson College soccer programs will conduct the clinic. Scrimmages will take place at the conclusion of each session. Sessions will run between 5:30pmCT and 7:00pmCT on Tuesdays and 2:00-3:30pm on Sundays. REGISTRATION FEE is $25.00 per child. This includes registration/insurance and, t-shirt. All players must wear shin guards for each session, black shorts and soccer shoes or tennis shoes. The deadline to register is Friday, August 29, 2008.
