Feedback: Thrilled that Reclaiming Burkesville Street still alive To ColumbiaMagazine.com: I was thrilled to see this today. I thought well, the ideais still alive. I emailed our Governor asking for information regarding the contact person who is in charge of a project of this nature? I also mention to him that Jim Wood is an fairly good acquaintance of our family. He is an attorney from Owensboro. KY, and a former deacon at our daughter's church. I know him quite well. He is now in Frankfort, working with the State. He is a big politician, who has some pull if he wanted to use it to help us. Is there any news on rebuilding the Circle R? RELATED: FOOD and WHAT'S COOKING and LETTERS To ColumbiaMagazine.com: Has there been any talk or actions on rebuilding the Circle R? When you talked to someome that has been through Kentucky, they know about or have eaten at the Circle R. I believe that bringing back the restaurant bigger and better would be a great help to the economy. And it was just a good place to meet and greet old and new friends. s/MR Norris Note: The Circle R is now being rebuilt. It will be somewhat different, but will carry the Circle R badge. It should be open in two to four weeks, according to Michael L. Stephens, the owner. The restaurant will be the third major barbecue location in Columbia, making this community the closest thing to Lockhart, TX, anywhere else--but more better--and giving travelers to Columbia an opportunity to sate their cravings at almost every entrance to town, not to mention the many street vendors here. Columbia's BBQ scene will include three distinct styles: 1) Kansas City, at the phenomenally famous Ol' Joe's B&B Que, 2) Monroe County style at the Red Barn on Hudson ST., and 3) an indigenous style, at the Circle R, all its own. It is as if the BBQ power lines of the world converge in Columbia, KY--making Columbia to Barbecue what Brussels and New York City are to international government. The new Circle R will also offer fried catfish and other items, and al fresco dining, eating fresh food in the fresh air. -EW 2008-08-11 03:26:28 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Food
Support for the idea of Reclaiming Burkesville Street growing Making Columbia healthier, wealthier, more liveable There many peoplewho are turned on by the idea of Reclaiming Burkesville Street, makingit more beautiful as it once was, with park benches, onstreet parking thefull length, stops at every intersection, and friendlier to pedestrians, bicyclists, motorscooters and NEVs (neighborhood electric vehicles)and less attractive to fast moving cars and motorcycles. A reader sent a weblink to share with readers of ColumbiaMagazine.com about a site dedicated to new ideas on city streets. To access it, Click Here In addition, here are two more which have been suggested for ideas. They are about the transformation of an already great American city, Portland, OR, into a pedestrian and bike friendly city. They've heardof what Portland, OR, is To read more past articles on the beautiful entrance to Columbia, once enhanced with a shade and once far more pedestrian friendly, enter "Burkesville Street" and "Burkesville ST" in the CM searchbox. 2008-08-11 02:57:31 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Healthy Lifestlyes by Kelli Bonifer
