2 monkeys, or monkey-like animals, spotted near Conover Ln.

By Ed Waggener

Jason Cox and Danny Biggerstaff have a few questions about the incident, but they think they know what they saw yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, May 21, 2008: Two monkeys, or, they say, they saw two animals which looked an awful lot like monkeys.

Cox and Biggerstaff say the animals were about three feet tall, with tails about as long, running away from the Cox residence on Conover Lane off East 80, just south of the tunnel under the Louie B. Nunn Parkway.

Feedback: Why is old water plant being shut down?

Ed,

Why is the old water plant being shut down? If it needed to remain operable a couple of months ago for an emergency back up, it shouldstill be needed. The new plant could have problems again, wasn't that the reason given for needing to keep the old one open? Who gets fired this time???

s/Sandy Rogers

My understanding is that the budget wrecking expense for keeping the plant open is the the big factor in shutting it down now. If another emergency arises, it can be handled by buying water from neighboring systems. Hopefully, the firing days are behind us.. -EW.

Columbia is bigger this morning: Welcome, Greenhills addition

By Ed Waggener

Columbians wake up in a bigger city this morning.

With the publication of the final notice in the Adair Progress, the official county legal newspaper this morning, Greenhills Subdivision is now part of the City of Columbia, KY.

Annexation of the Parrott Hills neighborhood moved a step closer to being resolved, too. A Notice of Right of Petition for the Parrot Avenue neighborhood was also published in the Adair Progress this morning, giving 60 days for residents of the neighborhood to petition to place the question of annexation on the ballot for a vote.

Both neighborhoods are beneficiaries of a $1 million plus sewer project, developed by the administration of Mayor Patrick R. Bell, which is being constructed this year.

Letter: Crusade for Children asks churches for help

Dear Adair County Congregations:

Here is a sample letter that we have sent out to churches. If you haven't received one here is what we are mailing to all churches on our mailing list.

Each year the Columbia-Adair County Fire Department and the fire departments at Knifley and Breeding work to raise money for the Crusade for Children. This is a great charity where 100% of all money received will be returned to local area schools for grants. Your church has been a part of this and for that we are thankful.

It's Crusade time again and we are asking for your help again on Sunday June 1, and Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7, 2008.

Donald Hare, Public Affairs Officer, The Columbia-Adair County Fire Department
