2 monkeys, or monkey-like animals, spotted near Conover Ln. By Ed Waggener Jason Cox and Danny Biggerstaff have a few questions about the incident, but they think they know what they saw yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, May 21, 2008: Two monkeys, or, they say, they saw two animals which looked an awful lot like monkeys. Cox and Biggerstaff say the animals were about three feet tall, with tails about as long, running away from the Cox residence on Conover Lane off East 80, just south of the tunnel under the Louie B. Nunn Parkway. They saw them as the animals were running away, and the animals' tails, about as long as their bodies, gave them away. The animals ran off into the woods, Jason Cox said, and he hasn't seen them since, though both he and "'Staff" are continuing to look for them. The animals were near the carport at his home, Cox said, and may have been foraging for food. Neither eyewitness has decided what species of monkey they saw, if they were, indeed, monkeys. "They were brown and had stripes," Cox said. Biggerstaff said that he saw the animal distinctly enough to draw it, if he were gifted in that direction. "But," he said, "I don't draw." They have wondered if maybe the monkeys are pets which had escaped or had been deliberated turned loose. There is also the question of whether the turnpike may have been involved. The monkeys owners might have lost them, One thing for sure, "We want everyone to know," Jason said, "We weren't drinking."A brief perusal googling for feral monkeys in Kentucky failed to bring up any stories, but someone more adept at google searches may uncover a lead. If anyone has any clues to clear up the monkey mystery, Cox & Biggerstaff would like to hear them, as would we at ColumbiaMagazine.com. This story was posted on 2008-05-22 11:22:11
