Columbia Water Plant: production ends today at 8:00amCT

Production of water officially ends today when the switch is thrown on the Columbia Water Treatment plant on Water Works Street in Columbia, KY. The plant, which has been a drain on the City Utilities after production started at the Adair County Water Treatment Plant, had stayed on standby for emergencies. Should such an emergency arise in the future, water will be purchased, as always, from water systems in neighboring counties. The future of the plant is uncertain at this time. The utilities commission uses the concrete block building for storing supplies and equipment. The view is from the Westlake Regional side, toward KY 206.

The JANICE HOLT GILES SOCIETY presented ACHS Junior Samara Skinner with the Society's literary award. This award is given each year to a female junior who exhibits a love of literature, critical thinking skills, and who exhibits a love of literature. Samara is shown above receiving a letter of congratulations and a copy of the Janice Holt Giles biography from Janice Holt Giles Society member and Adair County High School Teacher Beverly England. The presentation was made Thursday, May 22, 2008.
