Martha Hale age 70 years of 1335 Jamestown St., Columbia passed away FridayMay 16, 2008 at 2:50 P.M. at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 10:00amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Garry E. Jones, Rev. P. T. Barnum and Dr. David Blair the officiating clergy.

Obituary: Ray Grant, 75, member Cornerstone Church

Mr. Grant was the member of a large, respected South Adair County family; he was a truck driver. He leaves 19 direct descendants.

Ray Grant, 75, 222 Hwy 768 East, Glens Fork Community of Columbia, KY, passed away Friday, May 16, 2008, at the Russell County Hospital after several months illness.

The funeral sevice will be Monday, May 19, 2008, at 2:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon Luttrell and Rev. Sam Warner the officiating clergy.

Watching the Waste 2: City's tipping costs climb in April 2008

April tipping fee for City of Columbia up $898.32 in April, over March, 2008; 90% or total cost, equal in April to $14,106.56 should have been save by aggressive recycling, composting, advocates of recycling say.

Despite the tremendous success of the Adair County Recycling Center's program, the solid waste cost for the City of Columbia headed skyward in the Month of April.
  • April, 2008, $15,673.96 City of Columbia Sanitation Dept. transfer station cost
  • March, 2008, $14,775.61 City of Columbia Sanitation Dept. transfer station cost
Based on April's performance, the City's tipping bill would reach a whopping yearly cost of $191,222.312, computed on an annualized basis.

Darlene Campbell, CWC teacher, publishes sci-fi work

"Dragon's Heir" is available at Amazon.com. Book will be available at Adair County Public Library, where a book signing is now being organized. Details on that will follow.

Add the name of Wanda Darlene Campbell to the growing bibliography of Adair County authors.

The Colonel William Casey elementary school teacher's first book, "Dragon's Heir," is a science fiction work. It was published by Virtual Bookworm.com, May 7, 2008, in paperback form.

The announcement has created enthusiasm at the school where she teaches. "Col. Wm. Casey is proud that our school is home to a newly published author," Principal Patty Jones said. "The students and staff are very proud to have Mrs. Campbell as a member of our school.

CU MSN degree can be earned in one full year

Campbellsville University's new master's of social work degree is available in as little as one year of full-time study, according to Dr. Darlene Eastridge, Dean of the Carver School of Social Work and Counseling.

Dr. Eastridge said the new master's degree program is a "great benefit for people employed in social work positions who need a graduate degree for promotion or licensure yet who are unable to travel to urban areas and who are forced to settle for degrees that do not meet qualifications for social service supervisory positions."
