Obituary: Martha Hale, 70, member Trinity UMC

Mrs. Hale was a member of a respected Columbia family. She is warmly remembered by thousands of customers for her warm smile, incere friendliness, and gracious manner, in her many years as part of the Columbia retail scene

Martha Hale age 70 years of 1335 Jamestown St., Columbia passed away FridayMay 16, 2008 at 2:50 P.M. at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 10:00amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Rev. Garry E. Jones, Rev. P. T. Barnum and Dr. David Blair the officiating clergy.



She was born January 26, 1938, the daughter of the late Emit and Nevada Combest Hammond of Russell County.

She is survived by her husband, Nathan Hale of Columbia, KY.
  • One son: Mark Hale & his wife Michele of Glensfork, KY

  • Two daughters: Jennifer Holland and her husband Bill of Russell Springs, KY, and Monica Davis and her husband Dean of Anderson, SC

  • Two sisters: Marsha Howard of Campbellsville, KY, and Marlene Blair of Russell Springs, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Summer Bertram and Andrew Sturgill

  • Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and a host other relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion Hammond & Morris HammondMartha Hale was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, had worked at Ben Franklin, Mana Shoes & Wall-Mart in Columbia, KY.

Interment will be in the Hale Cemetery in Russell County, KY.

In lieu of flowers expression of sympathy may take the form of a donation toScleroderma Foundation or The Gideon International Memorial Bible Program& may be made at the funeral home

Visitation will be after 4:30pm, Monday, May 19, 2008, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.
