Gas Price Drumbeat: Says he may be nuts, but he ain't crazy

Comment about: "Another view on the price of gas"

Too ColumbiaMagazine.com:
When I need to buy something and it is available from a local business, here is where I shop and and here is where I buy, but not gas -- not any more -- not with the obvious game that's being played at all the pumps here in town. I drive enough to be able to buy gas away from Columbia almost all of the time and that's what I do. It really is that simple.

Twice earlier this week I bought gas between here and Campbellsville for $3.49. At the same time I noted gas in Campbellsville was $3.56 and here it was $3.70-something. If someone saw me fill up my car, pay for the gas and then tear up and throw away a five dollar bill they would think I was crazy. That's what buying gas here amounts to, and while I may be nuts, I ain't crazy.s/JH

Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair has released figures for party registration by precinct and magisterial district for those registered to vote in the May 20, 2008 primary election. The registration books are closed now until seven days after the election and will not be reopened until May 27, 2008.

A number of ColumbiaMagazine.com charts have been composed below, including the precinct, district, and county wide totals for Democratic, Republican, and other registration; number of men and women registered in each district and countywide.

As well, the districts are ranked by the number of registered voters, a range of 1,714 in District 3 to 1,905 in District Four. Also, there is a link to a similar, but less complete chart from 2005, from which closer analysis can draw inferences and trends.

The charts follow:

Gas Price Drumbeat: Another view on the price of gas

About:Don't buy gas 2 days a week
To Columbia Magazine.com:
Every morning, I watch CNN and they have a part called "Minding Your Business" where they review the price for gas today, a month ago and a year ago, based on national averages.

For the last couple of weeks, Adair County's price has been 10 cents higher than the national average! I would expect the price to be higher than the national average in places like Louisville or Lexington, but in Columbia?! Something is not right about this...

Tourism: Downtown passes test of tough travel critics

Importance of hometown in history, significance of outstanding citizens is coming to life for some very fortunate Camp Casey students, whose Kentucky adventures came full circle yesterday
With photo, links to Kentucky Adventurers stories, photos

By Ed Waggener

It wasn't a busload of Canadian tourists which stopped by the Chamber of Commerce office yesterday afternoon to inspect the history of Memorable Old Columbia, KY, but Columbia was critiqued by some pretty experienced travelers.

And our town passed the test of the seasoned adventurers.

Sara Dunbar, one of the visitors had this before the visit and after summation. "It was wonderful. I didn't think anything was here. It was like a desert in the middle of Europe. Now it seems like Lexington."
