Remembering: Bridget Karnes, May 27, 1963 - March 4, 2008

To the family and friends of one of the A.C.E.S. family's own, Bridget Karnes

We at Adair County Elementary School are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of one of our own, Ms. Bridget Karnes. From before the inception of our school Ms. Bridget was a great part of the ACES family. She was gracious enough to share her office space with us as we had a make shift office in the Technology Office before our school was even completed. After our school was completed she worked very diligently to help our librarians get everything ready for our students. Without the work of Ms. Bridget and other volunteers our library opening would have been delayed by months.

Tiffany Hadley suggests recycling bins at Columbia Post Office

LETTERS & FEEDBACK
I really ambecoming passionate about this issue... -TIFFANY HADLEY

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I am so excited about the recent recycling buzz around Adair County!

These are easy steps to re-use materials, saving them from landfills. What a great idea to put the recycling bins in the courthouse - it shows we are united in this effort. PHOTO

Is there any way to get these type of bins in the post office, to save all the paper that folks throw in the trash cans (usually junk mail and unwanted newspapers).<

2008 GBBC: Columbia finishes just 3 checklists short of top spot!

Community was only 362 checklists short of being No. 1 in America!By Ed Waggener

Bob Bethel, Columbia, KY, wrote to remind us of Columbia's lofty standing, which he thought was pretty good, and we agree. "Did you check out the final Kentucky tally ? We were second, almost first !!!!," he wrote.

Our thanks to Mr. Bethel for the reminder Adair County did so well.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is over, and in the final tally, Columbia (129) came in narrowly behind one of Kentucky's other two principal cities, Louisville (132), and way ahead of another, Lexington (118), according to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society, sponsors of the event.
