If it snows, the Adair County Road Departments ready!

EIGHTHUGE RED SALT TRUCKS rolled into Columbia yesterday,each one carrying about 25 tons of road salt - 200 tons in all. Above, from left salt truck driver Greg Curtis and Danny Caulk get directions back to Louisville from Adair County Road Department chief operator Lonnie Page and Adair County Road Department Superintendent Jobe Darnell. The county averages around 400 tons of road salt per year. It's not cheap: Yesterday's shipments, at $56 per ton, came to a total of approximately $11,200, Lisa Lee, the CJE's administrative assistant, said.

New ACRD backhoe at work

LONNIE PAGE maneuvers the Adair County Road Department's new Case backhoe to pack salt into the county's clear-span arch storage building. The new $71,950 Case Super M backhoe from Wright Bros. Implement, Liberty, KY was approved for purchase at the December 11, 2007 meeting of Adair Fiscal Court. Two hundred tons of the white stuff arrived yesterday, several hours before the next snow was predicted to be here. The membrane covered building allows light in, reducing the cost of electricity for the county.

ACRD gets two new Mack dump trucks

ADAIR COUNTY ROAD SUPERINTENDENT JOBE DARNELL drove this brand new Mack dump truck (or its twin) back from Montgomery, AL, on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. A second truck just like it was piloted by Lonnie Page, ACRD Chief Operator. The lease agreement for the two trucks was approved at the December 11, 2007 meeting of Adair Fiscal Court. At that meeting, Judge Ann Melton told the court that her office had tallied savings of $49,500 vs. hiring private haulers to carry the Adair County Road Department's gravel.
