POETRY by Billy Joe Fudge: Their Home

Inspired by seeing a photo by Betty Sue Jasper

Ed,

After reading your caption about this being a pretty abandoned old house, I could not get this vision of it being "Their Home"--someone's home and the eternal existence of it's being so.

I would think that each and every one of us have one of these that is rustling in the breezes of our memories.

s/Billy Joe Fudge

Tom Chaney, Jan. 20, 2008: Mary Lincoln's Insanity

BOOKS/COLUMBIAMAGAZINE.COM

Of Writers and Their Books, a review of Jason Emerson's The Madness of Mary Lincoln

By Tom Chaney

On the afternoon of May 19, 1875, ten years and a bit after Abraham Lincoln was murdered by John Wilkes Booth, Mary Todd Lincoln was declared insane. The declaration came as a result of a Chicago jury trial lasting some three hours.

The jury returned its verdict in ten minutes. She was committed to Dr. R. J. Patterson's privately run Bellevue Place Sanitarium in Batavia, Illinois, where she remained until October.

Her oldest son Robert reluctantly brought the court action upon the advice of six physicians, and with the concurrence of his mother's relatives.

G.R.A.W.L. meets Feb. 5, 2008, at Chamber building

Animal welfare league will vote in session on going to quarterly instead of monthly meetings. A reminder that the Green River Welfare League has no physical addrss and does not take in strays

By Shantila F. Rexroat, D.V.M.

I have been out of major circulation for several monthsconcentrating on my pregnancy and newborn.

I am, however, getting back in the mix now and want to begin the new year byrefreshing everyone's interest in G.R.A.W.L., the Animal Shelter and hopefully bring a spay/neuter program to life at the animal shelter.

The next G.R.A.W.L. meeting for February 5, 2008. I am hoping to renew interest and make attending meetings less taxing by going to quarterly meetings. This quarterly schedule will be voted on at our February meeting.

Letter: Information sought on Isaac Hagan, Hagan family

LETTERS and FEEDBACK; Also: LOCAL HISTORY

Ed,

I was wondering if anyone has ever sent you anything on the Hagans of AdairCounty?

This is my husband's family. His grandmother was a Hagan before marrying a Reliford.

Her dad died when she was 3 years old so we don't know much about him.

His name was Issac Hagan. He married Alice Romines. They are buried at Redlick Cemetery.

Any help with this that you can give me will be appreciated.

s/Camilla Campbell
