National Water Safety Month activites at Holloway HWC

From Annissa Koekemoer
Aquatics Programming Intern, Lindsey Wilson College

Since May is National Water Safety Month, we are encouraging patrons of the Holloway Health & Wellness Center, more specifically children, to sign a Water Safety Pledge on the pool deck. If they choose, they can ask one of the lifeguards to take a photo of them and their pledge, and their photo will go up on the wall the next day. This will be throughout the month of May.

Next week, Monday-Thursday, May 8-11, 2023, from 4:15pmCT to 4:45pmCT, we are running an Aquashred class. This is a high intensity, low impact cardio and strength workout in the shallow end of the pool, and does not require any lap swimming abilities. This is free to members of the HWC and $20 for non-members. They can attend any or all days of the week.

Next week Monday-Thursday, May 8-11, 2023, from 5:30pmCT to 6pmCT, we are running Parent & Me classes. It is $45 for the whole week. Parents can sign up by emailing me at koekemoera@lindsey.edu, or they can sign up at the front desk of the Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 399 Williams St., Columbia, KY. They do not need to be members of the HWC to attend.

Question: How will you spend Derby Day?

By Linda Waggener

Everywhere in Kentucky there are folks who love horses who stay focused on our special day, Saturday, May 6, 2020, the Run for the Roses. How will you spend your day?

I plan to start Derby Day at Farmers Market on the Square with friends and then check out the second annual Duck Derby at the Campbellsville Street bridge over Russell Creek at 11 in Columbia. The afternoon will be entirely focused on Derby Day activities, from local gatherings to those in Louisville - from a distance. To those who have the ability to enjoy the race in person, have a safe and joyous experience!

ACSO: Shooting in Sano community

From Sheriff Josh Brockman

Adair County Sheriff's Office

On Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 9:09amCT, Adair County 911 received a call from Hector Curry Road that a man had been shot in the leg and needed help. Sheriff Brockman along with Deputy Jason Camfield and KSP Trooper Levi Scott responded to the scene. EMS was staged nearby until the scene could be made safe.

Trooper Scott and Deputy Camfield located 41 year old Mike Bell at the residence on Hector Curry Road, and called for EMS to come on to the residence.

Sheriff Brockman responded to the residence where the suspected shooter, as identified by the victim, was spotted. Sheriff Brockman located Jones in the 500 block of Hooterville Road at the residence where Bell was shot. She was taken into custody and a 9mm handgun was recovered from her possession.

Preliminary investigation shows the woman traveled to Adair County to discuss a relationship the two had. She entered into his home while he was sleeping. When he awoke to her in his house an argument ensued and carried out into the driveway where she pulled a pistol and fired one round striking Bell in his upper right leg.
