Marvin Breeding, 89, Greensburg, KY (1933-2023)

Marvin Breeding of Greensburg passed away on May 4, 2023, at T.J. Health Columbia. He was 89 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11amCT on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. John Davis and Bro. Adam Shepard officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbia Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 4pmCT until 8pmCT, and will continue on Monday morning until the time of the service at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.


He was born November 14, 1933, in Green County, to the late Atha Gent and Clyde English Breeding. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a child Marvin Dewayne Breeding and a sister Wynema Breeding Garrison and husband Samuel Garrison.

Marvin was a devout Christian and member of the Columbia Christian Church. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Marvin began working at the Greensburg Tobacco market at an early age before taking a job at Green Hills Nursing Home as the Dietary Supervisor, where he retired after 30+ years.

In his younger years, he enjoyed horseback riding on the weekends. It was a pastime he shared with his sons, creating countless memories. His passion was farming. His meticulous attention to detail was evident by the condition of his land, equipment, and cattle. It was routine to find him hard at work maintaining his farm and ensuring his animals were well kept.

He is survived by his wife of 66 Years Julia Ann Cheatham Breeding; three sons and daughters-in-law Wade and Carolyn Breeding, Glenn and Lesha Breeding, Keith and Debra Breeding all of Columbia, KY; eight grandchildren David Breeding (Elizabeth), Patricia Breeding, Steven Breeding (Lindsay), Kristeena Breeding (Brandon Morris), Charles Breeding (Kate), Brandon Breeding (Breann), Savannah Roy (Clint), and Josh Roy (Marrissa); eight great-grandchildren Maddie, Kelsay, Briley, Samuel, Kemma, and Elsie Breeding, Memphis Roy, and Braxton Gillen; a sister Juanita Breeding Cheatham (Maurice) and several other friends and relatives.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Breeding's grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons from Columbia Christian Church.
