Carol Perkins: Happy Birthday, Willie

Previous Column: Sunflower seeds

By Carol Perkins

I've been listening to Willie Nelson lately. Although his music never gets old, like the rest of us, he is heading up the ladder. His 90th birthday is April 29, 2023, and the Hollywood Bowl is hosting a two-day star-studded celebration. I sure wish I could be there!

When my friends and I were concertgoers, we saw Willie several times. Some of those times he was lucid and stayed with the music. Other times, he was never with the music or on key. No one seemed to mind because Willie was Willie. One memorable moment was a New Year's Eve when Guy and I were at Bridgestone for a Toby Keith concert.

Letter: Gravesite Desecration

James Roberts writes:
I would like to commend Mr. Hagy for his investigative information on the removal of gravesites. If any of the parties involved in wanting to remove it had their own family buried there, then they wouldn't be so keen or hurriedly wanting to destroy what is otherwise sacred. Just the way I see it also, James Roberts.

Campbellsville University celebrates Earth Day

By Gerard Flanagan

Campbellsville, KY - Members of the Campbellsville University community recently gathered on Stapp Lawn to commemorate the 53rd Earth Day.

"Earth Day has become one of the catalysts for the emphasis around our country and in America on environmental stewardship," Dr. John Chowning, executive assistant to the president for government, community and constituent relations, explained.

Whether you call it environmental stewardship or creation care, Chowning said, "The emphasis is on preserving that which God has given us."

In referencing the creation account from Genesis, Dr. Joseph Hopkins, president of Campbellsville University, asked if we could also think of the creation account as a creation lesson.
