Davis was born in Adair County and lived there until he was 15 years old. During his younger years Davis attended school and church in the Cane Valley community. Brenda Gail Back Helm, 60, Russell County, KY native Brenda Gail Back Helm, daughter of the late Wallace and Cecil Garner Back, was born on February 4, 1962 in Russell County, Kentucky and departed this life on Sunday, April 3, 2022. She was 60 years, one month and 30 days of age. She made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Grider's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom. The time spent with her children and grandchildren was her favorite time of all. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed planting and caring for her flowers. Arlon Stanley Simpson, 88, Taylor County, KY (1933-2022) Arlon Stanley Simpson of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of the late James Ogden Simpson and Margaret Wooldridge Simpson, was born on Wednesday, November 15, 1933 in Green County and departed this life on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at the University of Louisville Hospital. He was 88 years, 4 months, and 19 days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church where he was a Deacon. He was a lifelong farmer, was a member of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #54 F&AM, and formerly sang with the "Gospel Fives" gospel group. Mr. Simpson loved to fish, squirrel hunt, and had a talent of storytelling. New book by Pauline Kurtz has deep local ties Author Pauline Kurtz has announced the publication of Call Me Huck III: The Trials of Fannie Finn Noe, which was released on Amazon as of March 19, 2022. The new book tells about Louisa Rogers Stotts when she was growing up on Mell Ridge along with her siblings, Nellie, Fannie, Irene, Henry, Sam, William, and Sally May Rogers. Previous books in the series documented Kurtz' family's journey from Horse Cave to Indianapolis just before the Great Depression. Kurtz lives in North Salem, Indiana, but has ties to several local families. She is the great-niece of Louisa Rogers Stotts and a granddaughter of Fannie Finn Noe. The new book can be ordered online at amazon.com, and Kurtz says she is trying to get in touch with local relatives to get them a free copy. "I'm sure the family would enjoy reading about Fannie and her siblings when they were children living in Adair and Green Counties in Kentucky." Columbia Duck Derby will be Saturday, April 30 From City Hall Stephen Baker says, "We're bringing the duck race back!" This year's race will be held at 11amCT on Saturday, April 30, 2022, Pre-Derby Weekend. Stephen says, "We'll dump the ducks in Russell Creek, and have a finish line marked off." All the proceeds will go towards making an official Paddle Trail kayak launching spot on Russell Creek by the 206 bridge. Yellow rubber ducks can be purchased for $5 each. Participants will be assigned a specific duck number in the race.
