Phillip Coffey: Healing

HEALING - by Phillip Coffey
Cloudy, breezy, gloom - some loudly sharing their strong-held position
While others, similar to most, withholding their thoughtful calm rendition
Of what is happening, just more loathsome, greedy and sadistic individuals
Corruption, hip deep, no waders available for we heavy laden receivers.

Surely, somewhere, while hearts are profusely bleeding, there must be peace
Where sober-minded people against all this insanity - many faithful believers
In untarnished rainbows - though the clouds appear dense without healing
Soon there will appear among us love for all, transcending millennia after the transfiguration.

Tommy Druen: Cue the final snowflake

Previous Column: How the internet has changed journalism

By Tommy Druen

Avalanches are difficult to predict. There are a host of factors that go into the forecasting about them such as wind, precipitation and temperature. At the end of the day though, it's all amount that one last snowflake, the one that makes the burden too much to bear. That miniscule snowflake can set into motion a path of deadly destruction. And even when meteorologists know the cause, it's not like they can pinpoint where it started or how to prevent it again in the future.

TJRH 12 Months of Giving Initiative for March 2022

By Stacey Biggs

Over the past two years, the support for our organization from the communities we serve has been nothing short of amazing. While we are always very involved in the communities we serve, we decided to find ways to go above and beyond in giving back to those who have supported T.J. Regional Health. Every month in 2022, we are doing a little extra to support local families, charities, partner organizations, students, schools, healthcare workers and more as part of our 12 Months of T.J. initiative.

In March, we chose to offer scholarships to high school seniors who are planning to pursue a career in a healthcare related field. Students who reside and attend any high school or homeschool in the T.J. Regional Health's service area were encouraged to apply. Those counties included Adair, Allen, Barren, Green, Hart, Metcalfe, Monroe and Russell.

Seven local seniors were chosen to receive $2,000 in scholarship money. The students chosen were:

Carol Perkins: The Slap

Previous Column: The Red Cabinet

By Carol Perkins

Will Smith and the slap have gained more attention this week than the price of gas or a box of crackers. I always watch the Oscars because I am a movie buff and am impressed with the glamorous gowns. However, over the years my interest had lessened. It has been a boring night in the last few years.

Until this year.

Norman offers advice in troubling times

By Daisy Rodriguez

Campbellsville, KY - Dr. Dwayne Norman said, "Believers can express trust in God even in the most troubling of time," as he spoke in Campbellsville University chapel recently.

Norman read Psalm 46:1-3. "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging."

In his lecture, Norman asked two questions: What storm or storms are threatening your sand castle and troubling your life? The second is, what storm or storms are happening to be troubling your world?
