TJRH 12 Months of Giving Initiative for March 2022

By Stacey Biggs

Over the past two years, the support for our organization from the communities we serve has been nothing short of amazing. While we are always very involved in the communities we serve, we decided to find ways to go above and beyond in giving back to those who have supported T.J. Regional Health. Every month in 2022, we are doing a little extra to support local families, charities, partner organizations, students, schools, healthcare workers and more as part of our 12 Months of T.J. initiative.

In March, we chose to offer scholarships to high school seniors who are planning to pursue a career in a healthcare related field. Students who reside and attend any high school or homeschool in the T.J. Regional Health's service area were encouraged to apply. Those counties included Adair, Allen, Barren, Green, Hart, Metcalfe, Monroe and Russell.

Seven local seniors were chosen to receive $2,000 in scholarship money. The students chosen were:

  • Matthew Cartwright is a Senior at Allen County-Scottsville High School and will be attending the University of Evansville in Evansville, IN this fall to study Exercise Science for Pre Physical Therapy. Matthew became interested in pursuing a career in Physical Therapy after he suffered a sports injury from baseball. While going through physical therapy, Matthew learned how to work out properly and what he could do to further prevent additional injuries to himself and others.

  • Hannah Wallace is a Senior at Barren County High School and will be attending Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY this fall to study Nursing, in hopes of becoming a NICU or Labor and Delivery nurse. Hannah always knew that she wanted to work in the medical field when she grew up, having watched family and friends work in the industry. Hannah has an active member in the Biomedical Program at Barren County High School.

  • Eaden Fowler is a Senior at Glasgow High School and will be attending Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY this fall to study Nursing. Eaden's interest in nursing began during the COVID-19 pandemic when her grandmother fell ill after a fall, and she knew she wanted to help those in need, like her grandmother. Eaden began taking medical classes at Glasgow High School, and obtaining her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification at the end of her Junior year.

  • Brinley Huff is a Senior at Hart County High School and will be attending Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY this fall to study Communication Disorders, in hopes to become a Speech Language Pathologist. Brinley always knew that she wanted to work with kids, in an English related and a healthcare setting. Speech Therapy allows her to work with kids of all ages to help them communicate effectively, often a skill taken for granted by many.

  • Jena Fields is a Senior at Metcalfe County High School and will be attending South Central Kentucky Community and Technical College in Edmonton, KY this fall to study Radiology, to become an Ultrasound Technician. Jena currently works at the Metcalfe Health Care Center and in April 2021 received her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.

  • Brooklyn Brownlee is a Senior at Monroe County High School and will be attending Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, KY this fall to study Psychology. Brooklyn's interest in healthcare started at a young age, when she was misdiagnosed with ADHD. It wasn't until she visited Teresa Sheffield, APRN at the T.J. Rural Health Clinic in Tompkinsville that she received the appropriate diagnosis.

  • Ethan Comer is a Senior at Monroe County High School and will be attending Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, KY this fall to study Biology and Pre-Medicine. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ethan developed a greater understanding and appreciation for those who work in healthcare, like his mother who is a nurse, and the sacrifices they make daily for their patients and families. Ethan plans to receive is undergraduate degree from Lindsey Wilson College then continue his education to become a doctor in Pediatrics from the University of Kentucky.
