WKU student dies in Bowling Green storms By Timothy C. Caboni, President Western Kentucky University Saturday, December 11, 2021 -- As the sun rises on our hill this morning, tremendous loss in our surrounding area is apparent. Our Housing and Residence Life teams have verified that there are no injuries or fatalities among our residential students, but I have recently been notified that one of our students--a young man set to graduate today--tragically passed away in the early morning storms at his off-campus residence. Kacy and I offer our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the young man's family and friends, and to all the families in our broader community who have been so affected by the devastation of last night's storms. KYTC crews continue clean-up following devastating storms By Wes Watt Bowling Green, KY - Crews from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 3 area continue to work in multiple areas following a devastating storm system that moved through part of the District overnight Friday. Crews worked through the night and continue to work today addressing downed trees, debris and other road hazards brought on by this storm system. Personnel from the KYTC will also continue to assist other first responding agencies as they can. Our traffic signal crew is also working on many damaged traffic signals. Our technicians are focusing on the signals that have power accessibility first. The signals that are out due to lack of power will be addressed once power is restored. The KYTC expects some traffic signals not to be repaired for days or even weeks. Intersections with traffic signals not functioning should be treated as all around stops and motorists should use caution. The KYTC is working on a strategy to address the intersections that may be without a traffic signal for a long period of time. Gov. Beshear updates Kentuckians on storm response Frankfort, KY - Today, Gov. Andy Beshear updated Kentuckians on his administration's response to last night's deadly quad-state tornado. At more than 200 miles long, the storm event was the longest tornado track on record and the largest in Kentucky history. "I want to thank every local emergency management employee, police officer, firefighter and first responder. This has been one of the toughest nights in Kentucky history. It's hard to put into words," said Gov. Beshear. "Remember, each of these lost lives are children of God, irreplaceable to their families and communities. But we will make it through this. We will rebuild. We are strong, resilient people - and we're going to be there every step of the way. This is one state standing strong." Wigginton speaks about building relationships over time By Daisy Rodriguez Campbellsville, KY - "If you want to go deeper with God, you have to go slower with some other things." That was the advice from Dr. Scott Wigginton, professor of pastoral ministries and counseling at Campbellsville University, who spoke at the university's chapel on December 1, 2021 in Ransdell Chapel. At the beginning of his remarks, Wigginton showed a 100-foot long rope, with a two-inch black section of the rope that represents someone's life on Earth "What's amazing is how much time we spend thinking about this little piece, maybe 70, 80, 90 years we spend on this Earth, when the truth is, your existence in God's eyes stretches out for eternity," he said. "We celebrate Christmas, and it's about the birth of the baby, but it's really about God saying, 'I want you to be invested in so much more than just this little part."
