Note from Mitzi - new arrival is going to be a girl

A special event was held over the weekend to reveal the gender of the little one on the way who will make Branston a "big brother," and Blake and Makaylee Cowan parents of two!

By Mitzi Bault

We are so happy about getting a baby girl. MaKaylee Cowan is such a good little mother. I wish I could keep Branston more but he is Blake Cowan's son. He is on the go! Some days I can't get out of the bed.

Back in October - a year ago - I was told that I had two weeks to live. It's been a long two weeks. You have to keep going even though you think you can't.

Lots of love from McKinley Lane. 'Nite.
It always seems impossible until it's done.

By Jennifer Hardwick

The Adair County Marching Band will be spending the week in preparation for this Saturday's KMEA State Marching Band Championships at Kroger Field in Lexington, KY!

The Adair County Band--the current record holder for the most State Championships of any band in the history of the event at an astonishing 24--will be performing in Preliminary competition at Boyle County High School at 11:15amCT on Saturday, October 30, 2021, in hopes of making their 35th straight State Finals appearance. (And yes, that is another state record they share with Lafayette High School.)

This year's group, led by Director Jordan Humphress and Assistant Director Cameron Johnson, has faced many challenges to reach this point in the season. Illness, injury, and a lost season in 2020 due to Covid have all combined to create obstacles at every turn, but these Adair Band students have risen to the challenge! The Adair pride, spirit, and talent is shining through each and every member as they move forward into Saturday's competition.

Their show this year is entitled, "Sure on This Shining Night," and was designed by Adair native and band alumni Rob Depp. Eyes with Pride, Adair!

Kenneth Scott, 90, Adair County, KY (1931-2021)

He was a beloved member of the community, always had a funny story and a positive and encouraging attitude. He helped many people throughout his life, quietly and not expecting anything in return. He accomplished a lot, coming from his humble beginning - born the son of tenant farmers during the depression. He loved his hometown, his family and many friends, and was especially proud to be "Mayor of Bliss".

Kenneth E. Scott died October 23, 2021 in Columbia, KY. He worked in the grocery business many years, starting as a clerk at Kroger's while in high school. He moved on to manager of the new Houchens store in Columbia in 1958, working his way up to regional supervisor and then Vice President of Operations at the corporate office in Bowling Green, where he retired almost 35 years later. Then he returned home to Columbia and full-time farming, his true passion and joy. And, at age 90, he was still taking care of his farm and loving it.

He served in the Army during the Korean War (1951-1953), and received a Purple Heart and an Infantry Combat medal among others. He continued a life of service after returning home - VFW - serving on military funeral detail, Rotary Club, Kiwanis, Soil Conservation board, Cattleman's Association, school board, Kentucky Colonel and a Mason for more than 60 years.
