LWC Wrestling sweeps Rio Grande and Thomas More By Christopher Coombs Crestview Hills, KY - The No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team had themselves a day at the Connor Convocation Center downing both Rio Grande (OH) and (RV) Thomas More (KY). LWC defeated Rio Grande 57-0 before besting Thomas More 48-0. The Blue Raiders (4-0, 2-0 MSC) swept both matches, not allowing their opponents to pick up a single point on the afternoon. Gov. Beshear, Dr. Stack: First vaccine shipments arriving soon Long-term care residents, health care workers will be among first Kentuckians to receive vaccine By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen Frankfort, KY - Today, Gov. Andy Beshear and Dr. Steven Stack, commissioner of the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH), said the state is expecting to receive approximately 38,000 doses of the vaccine against the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) as early as mid-December. "Those will be provided to 38,000 individuals. We can go ahead and provide the first of these shots, and then we will receive the booster shots about three weeks later," said Gov. Beshear. "We will be ready on moment one that we're able to provide these vaccines." The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines both require an initial shot followed by a booster shot. While the number of doses and allocation plan are subject to change, the Governor said as of today the majority of the state's initial vaccine shipment will go to long-term care (LTC) facilities; about 12,000 doses will go to hospitals to help inoculate health care workers. District 8 crews ready for first winter event By Amber Hale Somerset, KY - With more than 29,000 tons of salt on hand, combined with more than 80 snow plows, salt spreaders and other equipment ready in Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Lincoln, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Russell and Wayne counties, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 8 crews are ready for winter weather duty. KYTC has been monitoring this first winter weather event as it moves across the state. While some crews did some spot treating earlier this morning as of 2pm today, Monday, Nov. 30, all District 8 crews are on standby and ready to report when necessary. Weather forecasts are calling for dropping temperatures and more snowfall throughout the evening and overnight hours which will create the potential for slick spots into Tuesday. ACSO: Taylor Co. man airlifted after collision with semi By Sheriff Josh Brockman Adair County Sheriff's Office On Saturday, November 28, 2020, at 7:17pmCT, the Adair County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a reported vehicle vs semi collision 7.5 miles north on KY-55. Upon arrival, deputies found that a 2013 Ford Fiesta being operated by 25 year old Paul Rafferty of Taylor County had struck a 1989 Freightliner being operated by 67 year old Darrell Sprowles of Taylor County. Deputies observed Rafferty was unresponsive and pinned in his vehicle. KSP: Single vehicle collision results in fatality By Tpr. Nick Hale Burkesville, KY - The Kentucky State Police responded to a single vehicle injury collision on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at approximately 12:13pmCT, 3.7 miles west of Burkesville on KY 90. Preliminary investigations indicate that 48 year old Angela Guerra of Burkesville, KY was operating a 1992 Chevrolet pickup east bound on Glasgow Road when she lost control of the vehicle and ran off the shoulder of the roadway. Guerra and her passenger, Gerald Foster, age 62, of Burkesville, were not wearing a seatbelt and were both transported to the Cumberland County hospital by EMS where they were later airlifted to UK hospital for serious injuries. On Saturday, November 28, 2020, KSP Post 15 was notified by the Fayette County coroner that Foster had succumbed to his injuries. Letter: Mary Anne's food program Martha Berry writes: One food that was missing was the fruit cake which was a staple at our house during the Holidays. Mother's recipe does not have all the candied fruit that so many do not like. The ingredients include apples, figs, raisins, currants, molasses, pecans or black walnuts and grape juice, plus the normal spices. 2021 Kentucky Fruit and Vegetable Conference set for January By Sean Southard Frankfort, KY - The 2021 Kentucky Fruit and Vegetable Conference, the premier event for statewide produce growers to interact and learn, is set to take place virtually across four days in January, Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Ryan Quarles has announced. Pre-registration is available online or by mailing in the meeting registration form by Friday, Dec. 18. After this date, you may continue to register online through the final session on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021. The conference registration fee is $25 and includes a year's membership in the KVGA, KSHS, or OAK and full access to the recorded content for a year. Registered participants will be emailed an invitation to join the conference via Zoom on Jan. 5, 12, 19, and 26. Those wishing to participate who do not have computer access may attend at one of the in-person viewing sessions at local county Extension offices.
