Adair Co. supports Trust for Life in key ways in 2019

There are currently more than 2 million people registered as organ donors in Kentucky, and more than 99 percent of them joined the Kentucky Registry at their local Circuit Court Clerks' Office.

Shelley Snyder, Executive Director of the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks' Trust for Life (TFL), said she truly appreciates the registry additions from each county and the financial support to the TFL that residents from across the state give while doing driver's license business at local offices.

"We are so grateful for our partnership with these dedicated and compassionate public servants," she said. "We no longer sign the back of our license, so it is most important that people add the heart on their license and register as an organ donor." Residents also can join online at donatelifeky.org

Dennis Loy, the Circuit Court Clerk for Adair County, said that supporting the Trust for Life's mission is one of the best parts of the job. "We want to continue to ask each customer about joining the registry and about making a donation to support the Trust for Life. It is an honor to be a part of this mission that saves lives in the Bluegrass State."

In Adair County in 2019, 432 names were added to the Registry, and $2464 was given to the Trust for Life through public donations at the Circuit Court Clerk's office. In total, 6262 Adair residents are on the lifesaving donor registry.

Warren Co. to roll out REAL ID licenses

By Naitore Djigbenou

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is expanding REAL ID-compliant card access to Warren County residents at the state's first regional driver's license office outside of Frankfort to give Kentuckians more options to maintain air travel and select federal building access.

The office will initially serve Warren County residents, but in the coming months will serve Kentuckians in the region once the location expands its capacity. Warren County residents who have a current driver's license, permit or identification card may apply for a Voluntary Travel ID (Kentucky's REAL ID-compliant cards) if they want to use a state-issued credential to meet upcoming REAL ID requirements that go into effect Oct. 1, 2020.

"After years of repeated changes and uncertainty surrounding REAL ID in Kentucky, my administration is evaluating the options and working tirelessly to bring our state into compliance with the federal requirements," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "The deadline to comply is quickly approaching and we must continue to improve this service while encouraging Kentuckians to take action to ensure they have an accepted form of identification by October."

Brothers started local businesses, grew jobs

By Linda Waggener

I saw two of Columbia's health partners getting ready for walking at the LWC Health and Wellness Center recently, Joseph Pyles and his good friend Marshall Loy.

In conversation Joe reminded me that he and his brother, Randall Pyles, and my late husband Ed and Ed's brother Ralph Waggener, all grew up together around Columbia, sharing life and school days.

Both sets of brothers started small businesses and made a difference with the creation of local jobs. All four raised children who are leading businesses now, strengthening the economy.
