Brothers started local businesses, grew jobs

By Linda Waggener

I saw two of Columbia's health partners getting ready for walking at the LWC Health and Wellness Center recently, Joseph Pyles and his good friend Marshall Loy.

In conversation Joe reminded me that he and his brother, Randall Pyles, and my late husband Ed and Ed's brother Ralph Waggener, all grew up together around Columbia, sharing life and school days.

Both sets of brothers started small businesses and made a difference with the creation of local jobs. All four raised children who are leading businesses now, strengthening the economy.

It made me proud of all of them, and it also reminded me of all the young entrepreneurs in the making who may be sitting in classrooms of Adair County Public Schools and at LWC today.

I believe the next Bill Gates and Oprah are among them and it's our jobs as grownups to support and help them develop their wings.
