Arts Week celebrated at Campbellsville Elementary School

Campbellsville Elementary School students celebrated Arts Week the week of April 22, 2019. The students celebrated many different genres of music, with dress-up days and other activities.

Monday, April 22, was Country/Western Day. Those participating dressed in their favorite cowboy/cowgirl outfits. Students learned about composer Johann Sebastian Bach and listened to songs "Wagon Wheel" and "Coat of Many Colors."

Rodney Burress, 58, Taylor County, KY (1960-2019)

His passion was farming with his dad, brother and sons. He was a gentle giant with a servant heart who offered assistance to many people, stood up for his beliefs about God and country and was a strong supporter of the Circuit Court Clerks program, Kentucky Trust for Life. He was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

Rodney Burress of Elk Horn, KY, son of Bobby Lee Burress and Dorothy Jean Wethington Burress, died Friday, April 26, 2019 at age 58.

Funeral services will be at 11amCT/12noonET Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville by Bro. Alex Cox and Bro. Josh Wilson. Visistation is from 4-8pm Monday April 29, 2019. Burial will be in Callahan Cemetery.

Lindsey Wilson Women's Tennis captures MSC Tournament title

Campbellsville, KY - Lindsey Wilson women's tennis won its 15th straight Mid-South Conference Tournament championship today with a 5-2 win over Georgetown (KY) at Kelly Hall Tennis Complex.

The top-seeded Blue Raiders (10-5) earn the conference's automatic bid into next month's NAIA National Championship in Mobile, AL.

Bernice Montgomery Loy, 84, Columbia, KY, (1935-2019)

Bernice loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and family.

Bernice Loy of Columbia, KY died Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Summitt Manor Nursing and Rehab. She was 84 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11amCT on Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Terry White, Bro. Adam Shepherd and Bro. Tim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4pmCT on Sunday at the funeral home.

Adair Co. Grand Jury returns indictments Thu 18 Apr 2019

Indictments brought against 11 individuals from Columbia, KY, Bald Knob, AR, and Kingsport, TN, on charges including possession, flight, wanton endangerment, theft, reckless driving, DUI, trafficking, and tampering with physical evidence.

NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

The Adair County, KY Circuit Court grand jury, Columbia, KY, returned indictments against the following individuals on Thursday, 18 April 2019:

Byron Paul Ponder, 71, Yosemite, KY (1947-2019)

Paul was a gate hauler, manufacturer, and salesman. He was also a timberman, excavator, and tobacco farmer. He formerly owned and operated Ponder's Skating Rink in Yosemite.

Byron Paul Ponder, of Yosemite, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset. He was 71 years old.

Bro. Keith Bowling officiated a private burial for Mr. Ponder at Willow Springs Cemetery.

LWC Women's track and field earn 2 All-Conference Honors

Williamsburg, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's track and field team sits in third place after the first day of competition at the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The Blue Raiders finished the day with a total of 42 team points with one first-team and one second-team all-conference honors. Shawnee State (Ohio) is in first with 40 team points, followed by Cumberlands (KY) at No. 2 with 46 team points.

Donnie Cox, 66, Campbellsville, KY (1953-2019)

Donnie Cox of Campbellsville passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019 in Bardstown. He was 66 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmET on Monday, April 29, 2019 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Ave., Campbellsville, KY, with Rev. Earl West officiating. Burial will follow in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is requested from 11amET until 1pmET on Monday.

LWC Men's Track and Field in 3rd after day 1 of MSC Championships

Williamsburg, KY - Lindsey Wilson men's outdoor track and field sit in third place after day one of the Mid-South Conference Championships held at James H. Taylor, II Stadium in Williamsburg, Ky.

The Blue Raiders earned 50 total team points on the first day of competition. Cumberlands (KY) sits in the top position with 79 points while Shawnee State sits in second place with 55 points.

KY Fish and Wildlife Seeks Conservation Officer Recruits

From Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife

Frankfort, KY - Applications are now being accepted for conservation officer recruit positions with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. The deadline to apply is 8pmET on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.

The department plans to fill 30 positions in locations across the state.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver's license and meet educational requirements or have experience in related fields.

Applicants must pass a written test, physical fitness test, swimming test, oral interview, psychological and drug screen, polygraph, background review and medical evaluation to be considered for selection.

To apply, go online to personnel.ky.gov and click "Find a Job." Applicants must fully complete the online application through My Purpose to be considered for further review.

Free Tipping half day at landfill today in Adair

Today, Saturday, April 27, 2019, is the final Free Tipping Day at the Adair County Transfer Station, 877 L Willis Road, Columbia, KY in this year's PRIDE Cleanup month. The half day hours are from 8:30-11:30amCT.

Tire Amnesty Days are coming up May 16, 17 and 18 at the State Highway Department on Highway 55 North in Columbia.

Reminder - it is illegal to burn trash other than brush and natural elements.

LWC Baseball set to close the season at Cumberlands

Lindsey Wilson baseball closes out its regular season with a Mid-South Conference doubleheader against No. 5-ranked Cumberlands (KY) in Williamsburg, Ky. on Saturday. Doubleheader action is slated for a NoonCT start from Doyle Buhl Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (8-32, 2-13 MSC) are hitting the road after closing out their home schedule with a dramatic 9-8 victory over Brescia (KY) on Tuesday evening.

LWC Softball travels to Campbellsville for MSC road action

The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team is set to compete against No. 15-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) on Saturday at 11amCT at Hord Softball Field, 1407 Old Hodgenville Road Campbellsville, KY.

Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville were originally scheduled to play four-game series on Friday and Saturday but due to inclement weather in the area Friday's doubleheader was cancelled. With the cancellation, the Blue Raiders clinched the Mid-South Conference regular season title and the No.1 overall seed at the conference tournament.

The Blue Raiders (40-2, 19-1 MSC) return to action after defeating Kentucky Christian on Monday afternoon 12-4 and 13-3.
