Cattails were the only blossoms I could find at the stop beside Willisburg Lake in Washington County over the weekend. If there hadn't been an abundance of Thanksgiving food, it's good to know the Cattail is an edible survival food. - LW

Mike Doss, 54, Adair County, KY (1964-2018)

He was a contract painter and was of the Church of Christ Faith. He was married to Linda Turner Doss who survives.

Michael L. "Mike" Doss of Columbia, KY, departed this life on Friday, November 23, 2018 in Columbia at his home. He was 54 years, 7 months and 11 days of age.

The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 2pmCT in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery in Columbia. Visitation is after 10:30amCT on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mildred Hardee Willson, 93, Campbellsville, KY (1925-2018)

Mildred was co-owner of Willson's Blue Bunny with her husband, George. She professed faith in Christ and was a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church.

Mildred Hardee Willson of Campbellsville, KY, died at 7:50amET, Sunday, November 25, 2018 in Campbellsville. She was 93 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 2pmET on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Ave., Campbellsville, KY, with Dr. James E. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.

Beshear calls on lawmakers to fund pensions with gaming

Kentucky Press News Service

Frankfort, KY - - After filing litigation in April to protect the pensions of public employees, Attorney General Andy Beshear Monday called on state lawmakers to boost the pension system in the upcoming session by creating a dedicated source of revenue - expanding gaming.

Beshear said in a news release this approach would then free up other sources of state revenue to fund education, fight the drug epidemic and provide health care.

Max Wise to speak during QEP Lecture Series at CU

Campbellsville, KY - Max Wise, senator for Kentucky's 16th District, will be speaking at Campbellsville University on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 5pmCT/6pmET in the Badgett Academic Support Center Banquet Hall, 110 University Drive, Campbellsville.

Wise is one of the many speakers being hosted by CU's Quality Enhancement Project (QEP) and will be speaking about ethics in politics.

LWC women's soccer in the 2nd round against Georgia Gwinnett

The 10-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team squares off against seventh-seeded Georgia Gwinnett in the second round of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship at 1:30pmCT on Tuesday November 27, at the Orange Beach Sports Complex, 4385 William Silvers Pkwy, Orange Beach, AL.

The Blue Raiders (12-3-2) return to action after a 2-0 victory in the opening round against Aquinas (Mich.). Yvonne Ploeg and Emma Lindell each netted a goal to push LWC past the Saints.

CES kindergarteners learn to keep a steady beat

Campbellsville Elementary School kindergarten students are learning and having fun in their music class. Students in Cyndi Chadwick's classes recently practiced keeping a steady beat.

To help, students made their very own shakers out of paper plates and beans.

Joel Yarberry, Columbia, injured in 4-vehicle accident

Taylor County Sheriffs Department investigated a 4-vehicle accident on Friday, November 23, 2018 on Hwy 55 (New Columbia Rd).

According to Taylor Co. Sheriff Allen Newton, a 2014 Subaru SUV being driven by 33-year-old Joel Yarberry of Columbia crossed the center line, sideswiping a 2011 GMC picup truck being driven by 76-year-old Charles Noe of Summersville.

The Yarberry vehicle then sideswiped a 1982 Mercedes being operated by 27-year-old Alexander Vaughn of Campbellsville, then struck a 2000 Pontiac being operated by 66-year-old Arthur Goins of Campbellsville.

For Grandparents and those raising other's children, December 13, 2018 from 8:30amCT until 1pmCT at the Adair County Extension Office, 409 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY, is a day of support with Breakfast/Lunch, Goody Bags, Workshops, Door Prizes, Child Care, Resources, Transportation.

Grandparents "ROCK", (Raising Our Children's Kids), is a Free event presented by the Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency's Community Collaboration for Children Program & Adair County FRYSC (Family Resource Youth Services Center).

Registration and light breakfast is first on the agenda starting at 8:30am.

BOIL WATER ADVISORY for Campbellsville Rd.

Issued: 11/26/2018, 10amCT

A Boil Water Advisory is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District starting at 966-1125 Campbellsville Rd. and all side roads in between.

The advisory has been issued due to main line break.

Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure.

Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking. Bring the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.

Willisburg Lake is in Washington County, KY

Near the little town of Willisburg in Washington County, KY, the Willisburg Lake called out to me as it reflected the brilliant sunshine of Saturday afternoon.

Owned by City of Willisburg, it offers a marina, boat dock and campground. We'll have to let those who do the fishing tell us what type fish can be caught there.

FW Officers make Thanksgiving Day arrest in Nelson Co.

Frankfort, KY - After being arrested by two Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources Conservation Officers on Thanksgiving Day in Nelson County, two hunters are facing multiple charges.

That morning, Conservation Officers Ben Fisher and Lee Keith were conducting hunting patrols when they observed a man walking along railroad tracks wearing a camouflage jacket and looking into the surrounding trees. As the officers approached, the man ran, initiating a foot pursuit that ended quickly.

Officers apprehended Jeffrey Jones, 32, of Louisville. The officers found a crossbow laying near Jones and later discovered he was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Also arrested at the scene was Isaac Spiehler, 50, of Bardstown, who was found in a tree a short distance from where Jones was apprehended. Officers found a bow and arrow that Spiehler had allegedly thrown to the ground.

Adair Co. Grand Jury returns indictments Tue 13 Nov 2018

Indictments brought against 16 individuals from Columbia, Glensfork, Albany, Edmonton, Campbellsville, Greensburg, Lebanon, Russell Springs, and Magnolia, KY, on charges including possession, assault, theft, wanton endangerment, escape, DUI, promoting contraband, and terroristic threatening.

NOTE: Indictments are considered formal charges. An indictment is not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by indictment is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

The Adair County, KY Circuit Court grand jury, Columbia, KY, returned indictments against the following individuals on Tuesday, 13 November 2018:

Expect cloudy skies, with a high near 36. Breezy, with a west wind 15 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 24F. West wind 8 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued a wind advisory for most of central Kentucky through NoonCT today, with strongest gusts expected this morning from the west-southwest, up to 45 mph. Winds should gradually diminishing by midday.

James William Marrs, 65, Taylor County, KY (1953-2018)

He was a retired farmer, described as a hard working man. He enjoyed playing his guitar and could draw a crowd by his larger than life personality. When he was able he enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing and learning about his family genealogy and family history.

James "Jim" William Marrs of Campbellsville, KY died there Friday, November 23, 2018 at age 65.

Funeral Service will be 12noonCT/1pmET Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home by Bro. Michael Goodwin. Visitation after 10amET until time for the service. Burial will be in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Lauren Willis delivers QEP lecture at CU

Campbellsville, KY - Lauren Willis, assistant professor of human performance at Campbellsville University, spoke at one of CU's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Lecture Series Nov. 13 on the "Case for Legalizing Performance Enhancement in Elite Sports."

Her speech focused on why athletes in elite sports, such as football and basketball, choose to use performance enhancements and whether it is an ethical practice.

"This is another advancement in sports that is on the horizon," Willis said. The lecture included topics such as tech advancement in sport history, usage in the 19th century Olympics and a 1928 ruling against enhancement usage.
