Janne was a former Court Stenographer and a member of the Blue Lick Baptist Church. She was the widow of Merl Franch Toms who passed away on December 20, 2003.

Connie Lackey, Taylor County, KY (1962-2018)

Connie professed faith in Christ and was a member of Pleasant Run Baptist Church, where she had served as youth director and Sunday School teacher. She was a former employee of Walmart and Lake Cumberland Head Start. She united in marriage to Brad Lackey March 12, 1982, who survives.

Jury convicts Lincoln Countian on drug, firearms offenses

LEXINGTON, KY - (Wed 28 Feb 2018) - A federal jury in Lexington has found William J. Hampton, of Lincoln County, Kentucky, guilty of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The jury convicted Hampton on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, following a 2-day trial in U.S. District Court.

Walter Eugene (Gene) Hoots, Adair Co./Cumberland Co. native

As much as any other person in Adair County, he epitomized living a life of service to the community. He was a World War II Veteran who was named to the Veterans Hall of Fame in KY for his military service and community involvement, he was an original member and former president of the Columbia/Adair County Fire Department and he helped initiate the Adair County Rescue Squad. He was an electrical contractor in this region for 50 years, known for his reputable business practices and expertise. He was known for his quick wit and opinions on politics and community events. He and his wife, Joyce, who survives, would have been married 65 years this coming October.

What is not often mentioned are the aches that come with the distance -being away from home and family - from everything you love. Often, students tell me about the animals they left in their far way homes. They tear up with memories or share that their puppy died while they are away from home.

Drug Court helping people come back to normal life, contribution

Statistics show Drug Court has helped many people have their lives restored to sobriety, allowing them to be contributors to their families and communities again, and babies to be born drug-free.

Circuit Court Judge of Adair and Casey Counties, Judy Vance Murphy, spoke to members of the Columbia Rotary Club Monday evening, February 26, 2018, about the ongoing success of Drug Court.

She told the group, from what she is experiencing, Meth is by far the biggest problem for these two counties and if one person can be freed from addiction and a life of crime to support it, the Drug Court is well worth the work.
