Adair and Marion lose to make CHS the district tourney champs

With the championship win, the CHS girls' basketball team advances to the 5th region tournament, the team's first region appearance since 2002.

Campbellsville High School girls' basketball team is this year's 20th District tournament champions. To advance to the championship game, CHS defeated Adair County on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018. CHS took on Marion County in the championship game on Friday, Feb. 23, and won by a score of 51-41.

Neva Brewer, 86, Taylor County, KY (1932-2018)

She was a retired employee of Fruit of the Loom. She united in marriage to Shiley Brewer April 2, 1953 and he preceded her in death February 21, 1985. She professed faith in Christ and was a member of Otter Creek Separate Baptist Church.

Neva Brewer of Campbellsville, died at 8:20amET Friday, February 23, 2018 in Hodgenville, KY at the age of 86.

Visitation will be from 11amET until time for the funeral service to begin at 1pmET Monday, February 26, 2018 at Otter Creek Separate Baptist Church in Campbellsville, KY. The funeral will be at 1pmET at the church officiated by Rev. Dannie Nelson. Burial will follow in Otter Creek Separate Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Cody Brewer, Paul Brown, Dalton Judd, Trent Judd, Jesse Turner and Al Underwood.

Darwin E. Norfleet, Windsor, KY (1937-2018)

He retired from the Ford Motor Company as an electrician and was a member of the Union Independent Baptist Church. He was a native of Inez, KY, and a resident of Windsor, KY, at the time of his death in Somerset, KY. He was the son of the late Omer & Ethel Hainey Norfleet. His wife, Eunice Norfleet, survives. He leaves one direct and six step- living descendants.

Dr. Joel Carwile, CU Trustee, to speak 28 February 2018

He was saved and baptized as an 8-year-old boy in Limestone County, AL, then had a very emotional rededication to Christ when he was 17 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. It was there he was called to preach but did not follow through with that calling until he was 24 years old.

She was a homemaker and the matriarch of a great family leaving 39 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren plus a host of great great grandchildren to cherish her memory. She was the daughter of the late Marvin & Gertrude Bailey Alley, and the widow of first James Jasper and later Ralph Grider.

He was a member of New Hope Separate Baptist Church. He had retired from Ingersoll Rand in Campbellsville, KY. He was a Veteran of World War II, having served his country in the U.S. Army, was a Paratrooper in 82nd Airborne. He enjoyed singing & playing guitar with family & friends, an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan. He was a member of a highly regarded family. He was the son of the late Alvin & Mary Ann Williams Gaskins, and the widower of Martha Opal Hubbard Gaskins. He leaves two direct living descendants

Charles Ray Pace, Jr., 56, Burkesville, KY (1961-2018)

He was the son of the late Charles Ray Pace, Sr. & Sarah Elizabeth Kirk Pace. With his death, four of the six siblings born to the union survive: Sister Patricia Ann Pace, and Brothers Morris Ray Pace, Zachary Lee Pace, and Michael Wade Pace, survive. The observance of daffodils, lilies, and spring onions aren't the only "tells" of the early spring season. At least in my neck of the creek, the insidious foreign, and poisonous invader Poison Hemlock is also in full spring emergence.

Our friend and trusted UK Extension Agent Nick Roy has tried, often in vain, to beat it into my thick skull that the active early growth period is the very best time to control unwanted plants--no matter the species.

This is a continuation of Laren McQuaide's story about having been the only student in Adair Public School history to have earned a Cherry Presidential Scholarship to WKU. It is impossible to acknowledge each and every individual who has impacted me; I am grateful for all the people I have grown to know and love in my 17 years on earth. Carol Hancock Janes, 82, Cane Valley, KY native (1936-2018)

Carol worked for O.D. White Funeral Home and Evergreen Funeral Home in Louisville for 25 years. She was a member of an old-line, highly regarded Adair County, KY, family. She was the daughter of the late Junius M. & Nancy E. Sublett Hancock. Her death followed the death of her only son, Kenneth Wesley Janes, by eight days.

Kenneth Wesley was carpenter for many years in California. He leaves one direct living descendant, a son, Noah Victor Brummer of Minnesota.

Mildred Ann Royse Cundiff, Adair Co. KY native (1937-2018)

She was born in Columbia, KY, and resided in Bowling Green, KY, at the time of her death. She was a member of prominent Adair County, KY families, by birth into to Royse family of Garlin and Columbia; by marriage into the Cundiff family of South Adair County. She was the widow of Noel Cundiff. Services and burial will be in Bowling Green, KY. She is warmly remembered by Adair County High School class of 1955 fellow students, and many others in Adair County.

Taylor, Marion Counties in Hepatitis A outbreak report

Nearby counties among nine in Commonwealth cited. Sharp increase in Hepatitis A continues, reaches 117 cases (average for past 10 years, 20 cases) according to health alert issued by the Kentucky Department of Health. There are recommended vaccines. The first line of defense remains, in addition to the vaccinations is this advice: ''The best way to keep from getting hepatitis A is to wash your hands using warm water and soap, to handle uncooked food appropriately and to fully cook food. Always wash your hands before touching or eating food, after using the toilet and after changing a diaper.'
